ELLEN (ILENE) JACKSON

It is with heavy hearts that our family wishes to announce the unexpected but peaceful passing of Ellen ‘Ilene’ Jackson (nee Eikel) on February 25, 2024 at her home in Winnipeg.

Ilene was born on July 22, 1935 in Big River Saskatchewan to Oscar and Grace (Anderson) Eikel. Growing up in Big River, Ilene helped with the family farm, the general store, and worked in remote sawmill camps across northern Saskatchewan. After attending business school, she later moved to Meadow Lake where she eventually met the love of her life, Harry Jackson and they married in August 1968.

Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband, Harry. She was blessed with two children, her son Cameron (Jacqueline) and grandchildren, Valerie and Connor, and daughter Cathie (Marty) and grandchildren, Isabelle and Zachary. Also left to mourn, her brothers, George (Cecila) and Andrew (Adelle), sister-in-law Myrna (Erling), sister-in-law Ada (Paul), brother-in-law Bill (Alice), and sister-in-law Helen, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family in Norway including step-brother Per Folkvord and step-sister Berglijot Ogaard, and her wonderful group of friends that she cherished deeply. She is preceded by her parents, Oscar and Grace, stepmother Ragna, brothers, John and Norman (Meryl), sister Evelyn (Erling), and brother-in-law Joe Hyde.

Mom, you earned your wings on Sunday. Thank you for always loving us all unconditionally. Although you are no longer here with us, we still feel your love guiding us through this difficult time. You were the glue that held us all together and you saw beauty in everything in life. You will always be a beautiful memory kept locked in our hearts. We love you Mom, xo.

Funeral service will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of choice.

  • I consider myself honoured to have been one of Ilene’s ministers in the past. I enjoyed getting to know her and Harry. She was a gracious woman even when she went through a horrible painful back ailment. I believe that ailment never completely disappeared. I’m sending Harry and her family my sincere condolences at this difficult time. Many prayers my friends… - Posted by: Susan Tilleman (Friend ) on: Mar 04, 2024

  • Ilene was a wonderful woman who attended (with other senior friends,) a class I taught. Her smile and friendly ways are remembered. Our Dad came from Norway and settled in Big River, Saskatchewan, when he came to Canada. We talked about that! and what a small world. I saw her a few years ago on a bus trip . RIP Ilene! My condolences to Harry and family. - Posted by: Gladys Nielsen (Friend) on: Mar 01, 2024
