ALEX KAMCHEN
On February 28, 2024, Alex Kamchen passed away at Grace Hospital at the age of 93.
Left to remember him are his son Richard, sister Hertha Rist, and numerous nieces and friends. He was predeceased by Sonja, his wife of over 65 years, and brother Willi.
Born in Wola Malowana, Poland, Alex experienced a turbulent youth. He lost his father at a young age, watched Nazis invade his village, and later fled from advancing Soviets. Alex wound up on the wrong side of the Iron Curtain, but managed to escape, along with Sonja, and they both arrived in Canada in January 1955 to build a better life.
Alex seldom wasn’t busy with something. Besides working decades at CP Rail, he also put his talents to building cottages with Willi, renovating and flipping homes in Winnipeg, and toiling at his hobby farm. But he never seemed to have a bad day. Alex always had a smile on his face and a warm greeting for visiting friends and relatives.
A wonderful father and friend to everyone, Alex will always be remembered for his good cheer, kind heart, and generosity.

One of the most cheerful members of my family, Grand Uncle Alex was a powerful presence at extended family gatherings - quiet until he spoke, with a voice that was a delight to listen to of wisdom and positive energy. Hugs to all the family still here, and well wishes to all the family he goes to join in Heaven; may his presence still be felt and respected. - Posted by: Daniel Oakes (Grandnewphew) on: Mar 10, 2024
