RAMPERSAUD RAMANAND
Rampersaud Ramanand, affectionately known as Uncle Ramanand to many, aged 91, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2024, surrounded by his family at his home.
Rampersaud was the husband of the late Dhandai Ramanand; brother to the late Seepersaud, Jaipersaud and Harry Persaud; grandfather to the late Michael Sankar. He is survived by his children: Chandra (Dan), Joan (Ron), Jay (Sonia), Vinny (Bibi), Val (Nora) and Ravi (Shanie); his grandchildren: Derick, Kevin, Christopher, Alyssa, Jayson, Seth, Caleb, Stuart, Jezra, Aden, Ava, Olivia, Dylan, Sofia and Isabella; his great-grandchildren: Bryden, Kane, Nyah, Zalea and Jaxtyn.
Rampersaud was born on July 17, 1933, in Rosehall, Berbice, Guyana, the son of the late Sainchary Deodutt and Ramanand Maraj. Raised by his mother, Rampersaud began working on the Sugar Estate at the age of 14 where he established his career as Field Superintendent. In 1952, Rampersaud married the love of his life, Dhandai. The couple later moved to Cumberland Village where they started their family. Rampersaud had a passion for Cricket and represented the Berbice Cricket Board as President from 1970 -1971. Under his administration, he played a pivotal role in organizing several international Cricket games in Berbice, providing exposure to the Guyanese Cricket community and excitement for the fans.
In 1983, Rampersaud immigrated his family to Winnipeg, Canada in pursuit of better opportunities for his children. In Winnipeg, Rampersaud started working as a Building Superintendent and later started his own Janitorial Company, J&R Building Maintenance, setting the foundation for his children. Beyond his professional and sporting endeavours, Rampersaud was deeply devoted to his faith and played a prominent role at the local Mandir.
Throughout his life, Rampersaud remained a pillar of strength for his family and a source of wisdom for his community. His dedication and commitment have left a lasting impact on all those who knew him.
The Family would like to personally thank the WRHA Palliative Care Team for their unwavering support and care for their father during the past few years.
A Wake will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at The Durga Devi Mandir.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard.
