GUY KJARTAN JAMES HUTCHISON

November 23, 1953 - March 7, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Guy Kjartan James Hutchison on March 7, 2024, at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Guy was born and raised with his sisters and brother in Pine Falls, Manitoba. He grew up taking part in many sports including hockey and outdoor activities like hunting, fishing and camping, all of which he continued to have a passion for throughout his life.

Following high school, Guy attended Red River College in Winnipeg and Lethbridge College in Alberta. While attending college he tried his hand at number of different jobs in Thompson, Lethbridge and Winnipeg before settling back in the Pine Falls area to raise his young family. Embarking on a career as a millwright at the Pine Falls paper mill, he shortly thereafter acquired his own little piece of paradise, a hobby farm near Gull Lake, Manitoba.

For the rest of his life, the farm was an oasis for him and generations of family. It was a place to raise his boys into men he was proud of, a place to make a warm home with his beloved Verna and a place to set off on a series of life’s adventures whether that be motorcycle trips, hunting trips (especially down to Snowflake) or fishing excursions. Guy brought a smile and a positive attitude everywhere he went, instantly lighting up a room. He took joy in life’s simple pleasures and although he made friends easily it was seldom that they were not lifelong. Guy lived his life with honour and integrity, always trying to do what he thought was right not only for himself, but also those around him. He was generous with both his time and money, always willing to help friends and family with anything they needed and regularly donating to dozens of charities.

Affectionately known as Grandpa Guy to his grandchildren, spending time with them was one of his greatest joys in life. Whether it was attending dance recitals, gymnastics competitions or hockey games, playing mini sticks in the living room, listening to their latest piano accomplishments or regaling them with only slightly embellished stories from his own childhood and outdoor adventures he always made the effort to be part of their lives.

Guy, our Dad, was one of a kind and he will be greatly missed.

Guy is survived by his loving partner Verna, his sons, Jason (Jini) and Trevor (Kristi), grandchildren, Charlotte, William and Benjamin, siblings, Rae (Alex), Kim, Heather (Jim) and Karl (Carol), many nieces and nephews, Verna's sons, Chad and Jeff (Rita) and grandson Aiden. He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Alice and his sister Pearl.

A Celebration of Life for Guy is being planned for a later date, details to follow.

“The road goes ever on and on down from the door where it began.

Now far ahead the Road has gone,

and I must follow if I can.”

J.R.R. Tolkien ‘Roads Go Ever On’
