Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLESLIE HAROLD GODDARD
It is with much sadness that the family announces the death of Leslie on March 30, 2024. He was 98 years old.
Les will be remembered by his sons, Clint (Janet) and Michael (Doris), and by daughter Jane. He is survived by his daughter-in-law Lynda, his grandchildren, Michael, Sarah (Lucas Roger), Molly (James Blake), and Hannah (Bruce Grenkow), his step-grandchildren, Kevin and Karen, and his step-great-grandchildren, Dylan and Dayna. He was predeceased by his wife Mary (2014), son Bruce (2011), sister Shirley Riddell (2004), and sister Bea Stanley in 2011.
Les graduated from University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He was in the insurance business for over 40 years - with Federated Insurance 1949 to 1969 and with Wawanesa Insurance 1969 to 1990.
Les enjoyed listening to opera. He had a real passion for downhill skiing, His adult offspring would often grumble while skiing with him because Dad had to be on the lift the minute it started and always had to have “one more run” before the day ended. He took his children wilderness canoeing and kept methodical records of their route and the day’s events. Les was the most optimistic man; known for claiming the sky was clearing while driving to Grand Beach during a raging thunderstorm. Les’s hugs made everything right in the world - and could even save you a trip to the chiropractor. A practical man, he insisted every leftover be used and that food was never wasted. Les lovingly cared for his wife Mary in the last years of her life.
Les was kind, wise, generous, thoughtful, and loving. He was often described as a true “gentle”-man. He will be missed.

I always described your dad as a kind and gentle soul. We had great visits when I’d walk by and he would be out manicuring the front lawn or at Vic’s market. Your mom and dad were both missed on the block! My sincerest condolences. - Posted by: Pat Andrew (Riverwood neighbour) on: Apr 14, 2024
