JOANNA LAFORTE

Joanna LaForte, a proud resident of Westwood, passed away peacefully after a short bout with cancer on April 22, 2024 surrounded by her family.

In her journey through life, there is no question she was the most amazing wife, mother, sister, aunty, cousin, friend, and neighbour. Joanna’s most enduring legacy lies in the warmth of her social spirit. She possessed an innate ability to forge connections, fostering friendships with ease, and was known to many as quite the talker, earning her family Indigenous nickname Zamitton. She was the biggest cheerleader for everyone in her life and had a unique gift of making people feel special.

Joanna’s life was a beautiful canvas adorned with vibrant colors of creativity and passion. Her artistic talents knew no bounds and she made this world a better place by sharing her gifts. Everyone enjoyed her garden, floral arrangements, paintings, writing, photographs, sewing. Just to mention a few of her gifts that enriched our lives.

Joanna’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew her well, but her memory will forever remain as she won’t soon be forgotten. She is survived by her husband Harold of nearly 47 years, her children Trevor, Todd, and Brittany (Carson). She leaves behind countless family members, too many to name individually. She will be greeted in heaven by her mother and father Annie and Alex Raines, father-in-law Alexander LaForte, brother-in-law Robert LaForte, nephew Michael Almdal and her beloved fur babies Nipper and Mitsy who we know were waiting for her at the Rainbow Bridge.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the coming days, please stay tuned for details on Joanna’s Facebook.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • The Raines family lived down the street from our family. Joanna was a playmate of my (late) brother, Dwight. She and I reconnected many years later through facebook, and she shared fond memories of our family growing up. Always with a kind and warm word to say, I enjoyed these conversations. It is with our deepest sympathy that I send this message. Don & Berna Cleghorn Arla Cleghorn - Posted by: Arla Cleghorn (Friend) on: Apr 30, 2024
