Janet, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away at 88 years of age on December 20, 2023. She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Frank, her parents John and Sophie, her sister Elsie, and her brothers Jim, George and Marion. She is survived by her daughters Brenda Brooks, Sharon (Vern) Lecocq, and Christine (Dallas) Skayman, as well as her brother Stan, nieces, nephews, seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Janet was born in 1935 and raised on the family farm outside of Ituna, SK with her brothers and sister Elsie. Life on the farm was difficult yet rewarding as they raised animals and grew grain. She moved to Brandon with Elsie and met Frank, a policeman and they married in June of 1957 and began raising their three daughters. They started Gene's Upholstery and a fire restoration business. After several years of working hard, they had a successful business in Brandon and surrounding areas. Frank and Janet enjoyed going on the weekend to their cabin at Oak Lake where Janet could not only catch the fish but she could fillet them as well. Janet was a great cook who loved entertaining/hosting dinners with their family and many friends. She loved her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. After Janet retired, she took up golf, clogging, and bowling and was pretty good at all of them as she was a strong farm girl!
Though her life was long and full, Janet's generosity, love, and kindness will be so very missed by family and friends.
A Celebration of Janet's Life will be held at 1:15 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2024 at St. Augustine's Church, 327 4th Street, Brandon, MB. Donations can be made to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200 17th St. East, Brandon, MB. R7A 7M6 or Seniors for Seniors, 311 Park Ave. East, Brandon, MB, R7A 7A4.
