BERTHA WALLACK
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, at the age of 93 years, of Winnipeg, formerly of Fisher Branch, Manitoba.
Mom will be lovingly remembered by her four children, Judy, Janice (Leonard), Norman (Lora) and Lorie (Allan). She had five grandchildren, Keith, Kristy (Patrick), Ashley, Jamie, Faith and two great-grandchildren, Dezmond and Brynlee.
She was predeceased by her husband, Nicholas Wallack on August 25, 2003, sister Irene Paquette in March 2020, her mother Anais Ponchon (Le Hellard) on February 25, 1994 and her father Jean Ponchon on August 24, 1947. Mom was the second born child of Jean and Anais Ponchon (nee Le Hellard).
Bertha was born on May 26, 1930, in Fisher Branch. She and her sister were raised on the farm three and a half miles from town. They walked seven miles a day to attend school and church. Times were difficult and then more so when her father passed away in 1947. Mom was only 17. Her sister left home to pursue her education and mom remained on the farm with her mother completing school in Fisher Branch. Mom loved the farm life, animals, gardening and later married Nick Wallack in 1957. They farmed for 43 years until 2000 at which time they moved into town and resided there for three years until dad’s passing. Mom moved to Winnipeg to be near her sister, Irene. Together, Mom and Irene resided at Cathedral Manor and then Actionmarguerite St. Boniface.
Mom will be fondly remembered as kind, generous, always with a big smile and a devoted mother of strong faith, courage and determination which was reflected throughout her life. She was a member of the CWL since 1975 and served on the Parish Council for six years. Mom enjoyed volunteering and was always willing to help whenever was needed.
At this time, we send many thanks and appreciation to the staff at Actionmarguerite St. Boniface 3DE and 4DE.
A funeral service will be held May 23 at 11:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Fisher Branch with Reverend Roy George Vazhaplankudiyil officiating. Interment will take place following the service at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Cemetery. Lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Immaculate Conception Church.
