Hale John Hatch, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2024, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
John was born on July 29, 1944, in Ochre River, Manitoba but grew up in Dauphin, Manitoba where he summered at Clear Lake. John eventually settled in Winnipeg after attending United College. John was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Oretta and his sister Lynn.
John is survived by his wife Inger; daughters, Lesley and Marnie and their respective husbands, Simon and Shane; his sister Marge; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, Grethe and Butch; nieces, Dana, Angela, Terry, Jackie, Rhonda, Angela B.; and nephews, David, Robert, Patrick and their respective families. He was also a cherished grandfather to his grandchildren, Jack, Abby, Olivia, Lauren, Paige, Carter and Sam. John was incredibly proud of his grandchildren and enjoyed getting updates on how they were all doing and of course loved their visits. He took great pride in being a part of their lives and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. John will also be missed by his cat Pico who visited him daily with his wife Inger.
As a contractor, John was known for his exceptional hard work building many roads, highways, and was involved with the construction of Oak Hammock Marsh. Beyond his construction career, John will be remembered for his dry sense of humour, his love of a good glass of wine and his genuine interest in others. He was never too busy for a conversation and he had a way of making everyone feel valued.
John’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. His warm smile and kind eyes touched the lives of many and his memory will be cherished for years to come.
We would like to thank the staff of West Park Manor who took amazing care of John these last few months.
