ANTONIA (TONI) KOHUT

July 29, 1931 - May 23, 2024

It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Antonia, our Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother on May 23, 2024. Mom was born in Chatfield, Manitoba on July 29, 1931.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Gary (Debbie), Terry, and Shirley Vandale (Claude); her grandchildren, Brandi (Erik), Tyler (Zephyra), Carly (Enis), Travis, and Sarah (Eric); her great-grandchildren, Lilly, Ivor and Keanu; as well as numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Antonia was predeceased by her husband Michael Kohut; parents, William and Tekla Skrabek; stepfather John Skomoroh; brothers, John, Roy, Nick, Tony, Harry, Walter, and Fred; stepbrothers, Mike, Harry, Fred, George, Walter, and Nick.

In 1953, she married Dad and they raised their family in East Kildonan. They started a family business, K&L Cartage Ltd. and worked together for 30 years, until their retirement in 1988.

She found great joy in spending time with her family, especially supporting her children and grandchildren in their various activities. She was an avid gardener, a competitive bowler, and enjoyed playing cards, bingo and day trips to the casino.

Mom lived in her home on Nottingham for 62 years, where family gathered often, especially for Sunday get togethers. One way Antonia showed her love was by cooking for her family. She cooked many Ukrainian favourites including perogies, headcheese and cabbage rolls. She warmed our bellies and our hearts, and passed along her traditions to her family.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to all the staff at River East Personal Care Home for the exceptional care and kindness Mom received.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of choice.

A funeral will be held on Thursday, June 6th at 2:00 p.m. at E.J. Coutu Funeral Home, 680 Archibald Street.
