 ROBERT GEORGE TREFFRY

It is with love and pride that we tell you the story of the man we called our father, grandfather, great-grandfather, godfather, brother-in-law and uncle.
Robert George Treffry was born in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba on June 9, 1933, the eldest of three boys.
After high school Bob worked at the Portage Creamery then went on to a long and illustrious career with the Manitoba Telephone System. He began as a Central Officeman and with continuing travel and education worked his way up to the position of Southwest Area Manager. It was at the beginning of this career that he met and fell in love with a young telephone operator named Rene Oswin. They married in 1959.
Bob and Rene had many wonderful years together, moving several times with MTS and finally ending up in Brandon. In 1988 Rene made him retire. They sold their house, bought a 5th wheel trailer and proceeded to spend the next decade travelling North America. We kids saw very little of them during this time as they visited every province and state except Alaska and Hawaii. We were kept up to date on where they had been, not where they were going via weekly phone calls. Dad never missed a Sunday phone call.
When their travelling came to an end they returned to reside in Brandon. As busy as Bob and Rene were, they always had time for family, particularly the grandkids, friends and working with The Telephone Pioneers or Meals on Wheels. Bob spent time as President, then Past President of the Pioneers.
After Rene passed away in 2008, Bob moved to Campbell River, BC. One of his favourite pastimes was sitting on his deck watching the boats, cruise ships and occasional whale of sea lion pass by.
Bob passed away peacefully on June 25, 2024, just days after his 91st birthday.
He was predeceased by Rene as well as his brothers, Glen (Lillian) and Doug (Dorothy). Bob leaves behind daughters, Karen (Taylor), Deb (Jamie), grandkids, Gabrielle (Cody), Alana (Ryan), Tidan, Rylee, Maddex, Bella and great-grandsons, Nickolai and Kenneth. He will also be greatly missed by sister-in-law Dorothy (Dave) and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
