DAVID LOUGHEED BOWLES

David passed away quietly at home on January 22, 2024, in his 76th year. Beloved partner of Deidre, and devoted pet dad to Heidi and Silvio.

David was born in Winnipeg to David Albert Bowles, QC, and Katherine Edna (Flett) Bowles. He spent his childhood in East Fort Garry along the river, and summers at the cottage at Lake of the Woods, where he gained a lifelong love and appreciation of nature.

Dave worked for the City of Winnipeg, where he spent his working career. He was a principled person; a keen observer of systems and policies. He took pride in helping others in his workplace achieve advancement through education. Like his mother Kay, Dave gave spontaneous and unsolicited financial support for the betterment of others.

While working full-time Dave completed his Masters degree in Public Administration. He loved discussion and debate, and thrived in this collaborative learning environment. He was an honoured Life Member of Cupe 500.

David was an avid sports fan, voracious reader, music lover, dachshund aficionado, and great friend to a small, but interesting, group of people. David's many interests included, but were not limited to, politics, health, innovation and the economy. David often expressed fiery and feisty opinions which received varying degrees of appreciation from those on the receiving end!

David's memory will live on through his legacy of selfless generosity and many acts of kindness towards others. David believed in charitable giving, both in his lifetime and with a commitment to the future. We shall miss him always.

A private Celebration of Life was held. We invite you to honour Dave’s life by making a donation to a charity of your choice, or to the XXX Bowles Fund at The Winnipeg Foundation.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I am so sorry to hear of Dave's passing. We spent several years working together in the City of Winnipeg Water and Waste Department. He was a very intelligent man with a great sense of humour. We shared many laughs together and he was always interesting. He fought hard for the "working man" and could be quite feisty at times when he believed in a cause. My condolences to his family. Rest in peace, Dave. - Posted by: Anthony Esposito (Co-worker) on: Jun 30, 2024
