Lawrence (Larry) Alexander Eustace, brother, uncle, cousin, lawyer and friend left us on July 6, 2024. With heavy hearts and much sadness, the Family of Lawrence Alexander Eustace announces his sudden passing on Friday, July 6, 2024. at the age 81.
Larry was born in Winnipeg Manitoba and attended Lakehead University (BA) and the University of Manitoba (LLB). He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1974 and was sole practitioner in Fort Frances, Ontario. He gained extensive experience in the general practice of law, including criminal, civil, family litigation, estate and wills, real estate, corporate, commercial and municipal law.
His many legal and philanthropic accomplishments include:
-President of Rainy River Law Library Association (27 years)
-Executive Member of County and District law Presidents’ Association (CDLPA – 10 years)
-Bencher of Law Society of Upper Canada (6 years)
-LAWPRO (lawyers ‘professional liability insurance) Board of Directors (12 years)
-Lakehead University – Northern Law School Initiative Committee Member
-Legal Aid Area Committee Member (30 years)
-Tribute from Law Society of Ontario for 50 years of dedication to the law profession.
-Community Involvement in Fort Frances - NCDS/MNRAC/ and Civic Activities.
-Generous benefactor in Fort Frances: to Rainycrest, Riverside Health Care, Salvation Army, Royal Canadian Legion and local churches.
- in Atikokan - to Community Recreation Centre, Aspen Court senior housing and numerous other charities.
Larry was the legal representative for the Fort Frances mill, Barwick OSB plant, Steep Rock mine. He became the lawyer for Township of Atikokan in 1976 until present day.
Larry loved comradery with his many friends hunting, fishing and hosting parties at Windy Point (where there are no mosquitos). Larry’s navigational skills on Rainy Lake were exceptional! Larry experienced extensive world travel such as: Thailand, Scotland, Ukraine, England, China, Australia New Zealand, Mexico, Japan and numerous cruises including Queen Mary II twice. Larry hated Canada geese on his lawn, stray bears and Phillip’s dog and cat.
Larry was predeceased by his parents - Anne and Jules, sisters - Valerie and Debbie. He will be greatly missed by his brother George (Dang) of Thailand, nieces - Larianne and Annie Gyn and grandnieces Nora and Vera, all of Ottawa and very dear friend Patsy Crewson and her son Bill. He also leaves to mourn many cousins, clients and close friends.
