Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALLAN WALKER PENNIE
On July 10, 2024, just one week shy of his 87th birthday, our dear husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family while bidding farewell to his love, Marlene. Allan was born July 17, 1937, in Winnipeg, the youngest son of Scottish immigrants, Jean and James Pennie. Allan was deeply proud of his Scottish heritage and spent years researching his family tree, all the way back to the 17th century.
On June 21, 1959, Allan married Marlene Reid, and he loved her deeply, with his whole heart, for his entire life, having met her when they were attending grade school in St. James. Together, they had three children, who are left to mourn his passing: Kelli (Matthew, Camille, Aaron), Leslie (Dave, Aaron, Christopher, Emily) and Ian (Angela, Kayla and, you guessed it, Aaron). Allan was the last survivor of his six siblings. He also leaves to mourn many cherished friends and members of Marlene's family.
The other great love of Allan's life was his and Marlene's cottage at Malachi Lake. There he and Marlene made countless happy memories with their children, grandchildren, and many cherished friends, particularly following his early retirement from CBC, where he worked as a Lighting Director. Following retirement, he worked independently as an electrical contractor, wiring cottages at Malachi, and enjoyed travel to British Columbia, Arizona and Connecticut, visiting his children and seven grandchildren.
Our family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Riverview Health Centre for their compassionate, attentive and gentle care of not only Allan, but our family members. They made Allan's final days comfortable and his transition from life peaceful.
Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Klassen Funeral Home is in care of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, our family requests that donations be made to the Riverview Health Centre Foundation at rhcf.mb.ca.
Gude night, and joy be wi ye all, your harmless mirth has cheered my heart, may life's fell blasts oot oer ye blaw, in sorrow may ye never part. My spirit lives, but strength is gone, the mountain fires now blaze in vain. Remember, sons, the deeds I've done, and in your deeds I'll live again.

My deepest sympathy to Al’s family. I worked with Al at CBC, and even after all these years, I can still see the twinkle in his eye. He made our tasks easier, and I appreciated his gentle, good- natured sense of humour. Ms Frankie Glickman Victoria BC - Posted by: Ms Frankie Glickman (CBC colleague) on: Aug 12, 2024

I was very sad to hear of Mr Pennie’s passing. When I was young the Pennie’s were friends of my parents and just hearing Mr Pennie’s name brought back such great memories. I remember their dog and his “cookie trick”. My dad John Gillam worked for CBC too and always spoke fondly of Mr. Pennie. I am sure dad was waiting there for you! Condolences and love to the family. - Posted by: Janis Gillam (Friend ) on: Jul 16, 2024

I was greatly saddened to read of Al’s passing. As a fellow Lighting Director and electrician, I worked on many shows with Al at the CBC. My most memorable show was when we worked together for 10 days in California on “The Irish Rovers in DisneyLand”. That was an experience which I will never forget. My condolences to Marlene and the entire family. Dan Sirman - Posted by: Dan sirman (Friend and work colleague ) on: Jul 16, 2024
