It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Maurice Lafreniere, affectionately called "Uncle Mo" by his numerous nieces and nephews on Monday, July 15, 2024. Maurice is survived by his two children, Monique (Terry) and Marcel (Lori), two grandchildren Meghan and Ashley (Cash), and three great-grandchildren ages five and under. He is also leaving behind his devoted partner Ursula, who without her constant attention, would have gone through life much lonelier. He started with Green Shield in Winnipeg, MB, being transferred to Behlen, until he separated from his wife Marie, and moved to Calgary, AB, where he joined Shannihans. Maurice continued to live in Calgary after retiring from Shannihans. There were many great times with family and friends, be it at Oak Lake at the trailer or travelling to visit. My Dad was a cat with many, many lives and we are lucky to have had him in our lives so long. In the past few years, each time he was ill we thought that might be the last time we would see him, but yet once again he would surprise us and rally back. We will so miss having you in our lives. You have been fighting for so long you deserve to rest. Be at Peace.
Donations may be made in Maurice's name to the Alberta Cancer Society at https://albertacancer.ca/ or the Lung Society at https://ablung.ca/.

I can remember as a kid family gatherings and Uncle Maurice always had a story to tell to any one of the many nieces and nephews that would listen. Looking back I'm not sure there was liquor involved or not. There was more than one occasion when my brother Paul and I were hunting in the southwest corner of the province and Maurice and Marie would welcome us into their home free room board and meals. Fond memories of all the lost LaFRENIERE's. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire family. Mark & Jo-Ann - Posted by: Mark LaFRENIERE (Nephew) on: Jul 23, 2024
