We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Guy Charles Martin on Sunday, July 21 at the age of 84 years.
Guy is survived by his son Shawn and granddaughter Hope. Also left to mourn are his siblings: Ginette (Ed Gusta); Thérèse (Albert Richard), Daniel (Marie-Paule); Claude (Irène) and Colette (Lynn), as well as many nieces and nephews.
Born and raised in St. Claude, Manitoba, Guy was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Cécile (née Lacroix), his brother André and Guy’s loving wife Charlotte (née Locke).
After a brief period of military service, Guy moved to Winnipeg to attend Université de Saint-Boniface. Over his lifetime he worked in a variety of occupations including bartending, painting, teaching and the funeral business, among others.
In his younger years, Guy enjoyed sketching, oil painting and writing poetry and prose and was a self-published author. He was a collector of curios, a dog lover (especially Papillons) and a skilled target shooter (and former member of the Gateway Gun Club).
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 29 at E. J. Coutu Funeral Home at 680 Archibald Street at 11:00 a.m. with viewing one hour prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the St. Boniface Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Guy’s memory to The Salvation Army, Winnipeg Centre of Hope, 180 Henry Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3B 0J8.
