BRIAN BRUCE LECKIE

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brian "Bruce" Leckie on July 22, 2024 in his 92 year.

Bruce was born on August 29, 1932 in Lucky Lake, Saskatchewan. He was the middle son of Dr. George and Edith Leckie. Bruce loved his brothers (Barrie and Newton) and was very proud of their accomplishments. He was very proud of his Saskatchewan roots but also enjoyed time in Manitoba, spending many summers as a youth around Minnedosa.

Bruce graduated high school in Saskatoon and received his Business degree at the University of Manitoba. A job with PetroFina took him to Toronto, where he met the love of his life Joy. He somehow convinced Joy to move to Deloraine, MB where he managed a Robinson Little store. Hard work and dedication resulted in a promotion that moved him to Winnipeg where he became Vice-president. A career change saw Bruce become Executive Assistant to two Ministers in the Manitoba Legislature.

Bruce was a believer in community and an active volunteer at Kirkfield Westwood C.C. He was an avid curler, winning many club championships throughout his life and an active member of the Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club for over 50 years until the age of 90. He loved hockey, his Roughriders and all sports.

Bruce leaves behind his loving wife of 64 years Joy, daughter Lynne (Brent), sons Ross (Audrey) and Scott (Tracy), nine grandchildren (Megan, Janna, Reid, Ryan, Adam, Allison, Kara, Myles, Shaelyn) and great-granddaughter (Layne). He also leaves behind his ever supportive sister-in-law Donalda, and several nieces and nephews. He was very proud of his family and loved them foremost. Bruce always had a sparkle in his eye and was known for his great story telling. His most treasured place was Clear Lake, at the family cottage where he and Joy had many great friends.

There will be a small private service to celebrate Bruce's life.

  • Our condolences to Joy and family on the recent passing of Bruce. Bruce was an absolute workhorse who resolved issues with skill and aplomb. Continuous good humour and great people skills made Bruce a valued member of our legislative staff. No job was too big or too small to warrant his detailed approach and successful resolution. • I just wanted to offer my sympathy in the loss of your husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. I was one of the Robinson Little kids and got to spend time with Lynne, Ross and Scott at the Company events Christmas parties summer picnic, golf tournaments. I even have a memory of being a dinner guest where Mr Leckie would have such an engaging conversation about current events and what happened in everyone's day. As a kid it was evident that you shared such a bond with each other. I will always remember your kindness to my mom when she lost our dad. I am very sorry we lost touch. But I hope you know how much of an impact you both had on this Ribinson Little kid. Please take care. - Posted by: Melanie Schade (née Brownscombe) (Daughter of a coworker) on: Aug 10, 2024

  • I’m so grateful for Bruce. When I first got involved in politics in Kirkfield Park he was my mentor. He guided me, gave me advice and took me for coffee at least once a week to talk. He was always smiling, loved to laugh and he left a place in my heart forever. He was a good man and I know that he will be greatly missed by many. The world is always a better place when there are people like Bruce in it. - Posted by: Stacey Meek (Friend ) on: Aug 10, 2024
