I was so sorry to hear of Joe's passing. I worked with him at Robert H Smith. He was a wonderful principal. He was fun, full of laughs and always willing to help make things better for his teachers. We had a lot of fun times there because of his light handed leadership. - Posted by: Jacquie Field (employee) on: Aug 15, 2024

Sorry to hear of your loss. Mom Florence Buhr always loved the times you came to Gretna, and visited, drank “coffee” and got reacquainted as time passed by. Not to worry, as there are lots of Buhr’s to greet Joe at those pearly gates. Lots of cards, good food, and great memories. I think of Bathtub rock at your camp in the Kenora area. I hope we can connect again. Sending Love, and planting a tree on the yard with Joe in mind. All energy is not lost, it just assumes a new form. My condolences to Joe’s family. What a great principal he was! As a teacher at Isaac Brock, I appreciated his no nonsense, yet supportive ways. (And yes, his sense of humour). I was so sorry to see him go when he retired. Rest in peace Joe. - Posted by: Bev Kornelsen (Former colleague ) on: Jul 27, 2024

I met Joe when he was first dating my cousin Pat Broeska and that was it for both of them; they were in love and stayed that way until his last breath. When I lived in Seattle, Washington they camped their way across Canada and down into the US with their kiddos one summer and had such fun. Even then, Judy found a stray cat and took care of it for the few days they were with us and re-homed it but, was also very sad she couldn't take it with her. Pat and I kept in touch over the years and when they retired after selling their Florida place came to California and we spent New Year's EVE together and then flew to Puerta Vallarta for a week. What a time we had! Joe did the Macarena and tequila shots, WOO HOO!!!!! He had the best sense of humor and his observations were right on and truly enjoyed learning as much as he could wherever he went. I will miss the quick wit and his compassionate soul. God Bless Pat and the family - Posted by: Linda Broeska Lane (Cousin (in-law)) on: Jul 27, 2024
