Amy Obszarski, age 91 of Fisher Branch, Manitoba, peacefully passed away on Friday, July 26, 2024, with family by her side.
Amy was predeceased by husband Charles, her parents, Joseph and Mary (nee: Fuz) Skibinski and her son Vincent. She is survived by her children, Robert (Cindy nee: Finch) Obszarski, Joanne (Frank) Rudnicki, Arlene (Brian) Binner; grandchildren, Vanessa (Kyle) Foster, Candace (Dave) Alao, Michelle Rudnicki (Evan Smolinski), Megan Binner (Jeremy MacDougall), Katelyn (Tyson) Lay; great-grandchildren: Kayin and Juwon Alao, Emma and Rowen Smolinski, John and Mark Lay; and brother Victor Skibinski.
Born on April 23, 1933, Amy grew up on the family farm near Fisher Branch along with her parents, younger brother Victor, and uncles. Once finished high school, she taught for two years, and, after marrying her husband Charles on July 10, 1952, she supported the family business 'Charlie’s Garage' in Hodgson until 1961.
At that time, Amy began farming with Charlie full-time 30 miles 'up north' of Fisher Branch in the Harwill area, alongside her brother and son until they retired in 1996.
An active member of the community, Amy was involved in the local Women’s Institute (WI), the church choir, the Fisher Branch Curling Club, and many more community groups and initiatives.
Amy loved to garden and cook and was known for her holupsi, perogies, and many other delicious dishes she shared with her family and her community. Her (many!) gardens had endless rows of potatoes, cabbage, and countless other vegetables and flowers, which she tended to meticulously, passing along her love of gardening to her children and grandchildren. In addition to enjoying trips south during many cold Manitoba winters, playing bingo at the local community centres, curling, and fishing and camping, one of Amy’s greatest sources of joy was spending time with her family during holidays and get-togethers, always wanting to bring everyone together to celebrate and enjoy each other’s company.
Many thanks to the team at the Fisher Personal Care Home and Fisher Funeral Home for their kindness and compassionate care. A private burial will take place at a later date.
