DARREN CRAIG GUICHERET
It is with profound sorrow that we announce Darren’s passing on July 25, 2024, at the age of 54. Left to cherish his memory are his parents Wayne and Carol, sister Kelly, and Aunt Marilyn Clark (Al Noakes). Darren was predeceased by his partner Donald King and grandparents Reta and Maurice Guicheret and Agnes and Rupert Belcher.
Darren grew up on Vimy Road in St. James, where he enjoyed adventures with neighborhood kids. He played baseball and hockey at the Heritage Victoria Community Club and hockey for the John Taylor Pipers and the St. James Canucks. Darren was blessed with two sets of loving grandparents who played a significant role in his upbringing. Some of Darren’s most special times were at the Bird River family cottage. He enjoyed boating, swimming, dirt-biking, and snowmobiling with family and lake buddies. He became a skilled water skier and wake boarder. In his teens, Darren had loads of fun hanging with high school friends, taking a few memorable road trips to the mountains to ski and snowboard.
After graduation, Darren began a long career with Sunrex. He started with renovation work and graduated into higher roles, learning about real estate and transitioning that knowledge into his own real estate investments, eventually obtaining his real estate license. He bought a character home in Corydon Village and renovated it with skill and imagination. He took great pride in his home and enjoyed the vibrant neighborhood.
Darren had a passion for finding a ‘diamond in the rough’. He would discover unique items to refinish or repurpose, many of which he gifted to his family. One of his early vintage finds was a ‘76 VW Westfalia that took him exploring on camping trips and folk festivals.
Darren could be a very empathetic soul. He loved music, art, photography, had a great fondness for pets and wildlife and was quick to help a friend in need. He was a free spirit and independent, qualities our family respected in him.
Darren travelled extensively, cycling around Europe, touring in China, trekking Machu Pichu, and visiting Panama and Phoenix with work family. He fell in love with Phoenix and purchased a second home in Litchfield Park. Here, he and Don created a personal oasis and thoroughly enjoyed the laid-back desert life.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to everyone who shared in Darren's life, those who provided help and support during his times of need. Special thanks go to John, Helmut, and the Sunrex family for their friendship and support over the years, to Don for his love and companionship, to Jan for being a caring friend and neighbour, and to those who befriended Darren in his later years.
Darren, we love you and will miss you forever. Your many talented creations will always bring happy memories and we’ll look back and celebrate you and your accomplishments.
A private family service will be held. Those who so wish may donate to Diabetes Canada, the Canadian Mental Health Association or a charity of their choice.
Thank you to Wojcik’s for their compassion and assistance.

Dear Wayne, Carol and Kelly, Dave and I would like to let you know that you are in our thoughts during this time of sadness and sudden change in your lives. We did not know Darren, but through Kelly I learned a lot about him over the years. Our friendship with Kelly has endured more than 30 years and as a result our relationship with Carol and Wayne as well. This tragic event sits sadly in our hearts as it will have a profound affect on all of you. Now it will be the happy memories that will help you to deal with Darren's passing and will continue to sustain you all as the days pass. Memories are so important and the sharing of them even more so. Enjoy your family memories especially the Bird River ones. - Posted by: Christina and David Simpson (Friend of Kelly ) on: Aug 15, 2024

My deepest condolences to Kelly, Wayne, and Carol. Please know you raised one of my favorite people on the planet. Darren, So many memories, where to start? I'm just so grateful to have been lucky enough to be a good friend of Darren's since I was 17. Darren never really liked that he came back to JT to upgrade in 1989, but I for one love that he did. Because that was the start of such a great friendship for decades to come. Lots of trips and visits because I couldn't stay in one place for long. From that Banff ski trip in '90 all the way up to his last visit to see me in Calgary in 2018. From his place on Balmoral to Hugo and his house on Cockburn when he was mine and Andrea's "landlord" (he should have paid us rent, he was there so much). We spent soooo many hours and hours talking, listening to music, smoking, drinking, and most of all, laughing. I'll miss that laugh forever. Such great memories with Andrea, and with so many others, too many to even count. And I'll always always cherish all the special times I got to spend with him and Don. Ugggh, I miss them both. D, so so so sad you're gone but I will love you always, my friend. - Posted by: Leigh Abra (Friend) on: Aug 10, 2024

Wayne, Carol and Kelly I was so deeply saddened to hear of Darren's passing. I hope you find comfort in hearing these wonderful stories of how he touched so many lives. I would not be who I am today without the love and friendship that I had with Darren. We met in our very early 20s. And from the first moment, we became fast friends, and then chosen family. He influenced so many aspects of my life, was always supportive and generous. For many years we lived a block or floor away from each other. Until he smartly bought a house the Leigh and I could rent from him. He was funny and quick-witted, and always up for some adventure or just laying low on his deck, enjoying good food, wine and the company of friends. He loved a good debate and the rise of google really put a damper on how long these discussions would go on, we could fact check each other too easily. He will be missed, in so many ways, but not forgotten. While this sudden passing makes it hard to say goodbye, I do know that I was never shy in telling him how much he meant to me. Sending you my thoughts and sympathy. - Posted by: Andrea Senebald (Friend) on: Aug 07, 2024

Darren was a good friend during the majority of our 20-year-old selves. We hung out socially, together (w/ Cam K, Dan, Don, Leigh, and many others). We also worked together in a past life. He once came to visit me and my then girlfriend Dana (now my wife) in London, UK. When in London, we were once in a Club next to Mick Jagger and Ron Wood from the Stones. It was surreal. Then, as life happens, people drift apart. I will choose to remember the laughs, the fun times and Darren’s many talents. My sincere condolences to the Guicheret family and Darren's many friends. He was loved. “Death is only an incident, and not the most important which happens to us in this state of being”. –WSC. - Posted by: Cam Schepp (Friend) on: Aug 04, 2024

I am so sorry to hear this. My condolences go out to his family. I went to grade 12 grad with Darren and we had such a fun time together with all of our friends. Then all of us continued the great time at his Lac du Bonnet cottage right after grad. I have so many pictures and wonderful memories of Darren. He will be so missed by all his high school buddies. Am feeling so very sad to learn of this news. Darren was a dear dear friend and we had some significant childhood and young adult journeys together. We were not as close as of late but rarely a day went by when he didn't cross my mind. I was lucky enough to have been able to share this with him, and a meal, last time we saw each other. He was always very generous towards me and I always hoped I was able to provide a fraction of that love and generosity back. Darren - I will miss you and will continue to relive and revisit all of those times we shared and think of you often. You were a great friend. My love to Wayne and Carol and Kelly - am so so very sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Chris Palahniuk (Friend) on: Aug 03, 2024
