Always full of surprises, Bob passed away at his home in Baldur, Manitoba, on July 17, 2024, at the age of 75. Bob was born in Melita, Manitoba, on November 30, 1948. He lived a life drawn to simplicity, finding greater value in the natural world than in monetary wealth or material possessions.
Bob spent many years as an accomplished welder and millwright, working throughout the country from basic welding to computer guided machining. He had a true love for nature and spent as much time as he could climbing mountains, caving, camping and seized every opportunity to hear raindrops falling. His love of nature also made him an excellent gardener and he poured that love into countless seasons of growing, pollinating and cross breeding various plant species. He was keen to share his knowledge and skills with others in his life.
In retirement, his love of the natural world shined again as he took up beekeeping and spent many hours planting fruit trees on his property and in places he cherished, knowing that nature would provide for many long after his departure. Bob had a generous spirit and always recognized opportunities to be of assistance to others.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Wilma (Stowe) Sterling and brothers, Barry and Ken Sterling. He is survived by daughters, Michelle, Leane, Kerri (Jason) and Aries; siblings, Pat (Richard), Wayne (Faith), Glen (Coral), and Sue (Jeff) Sterling; grandchildren, Adara, Wesley, Skyler and Kaleb, as well as nieces, nephews, and many true and dear friends in Birdtail Sioux First Nation.
We encourage all to mourn this loss in a way meaningful to you, and think of Bob each time you enjoy gardening, nature and all things that grow.
