MARCELLE LAURETTE DEMERS

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Marcelle Laurette Demers (nee Colliou) on August 2, 2024, after a brief illness. Marcelle is survived by her loving husband John Demers, daughters Michelle Warawa (Rick) and Claire Corley, stepchildren Sharon Demers (Rob) and David Demers (Tracey), grandchildren Nicholas, Jake (Brigitte), Matt (Sydney), Eric, Grace (Cole) and Ethan, great-grandchildren Danylo and Emilia, nieces Lauren and Jeanette, dear friends Bruce and Rose, and Nataliia, as well as several other friends, neighbours and acquaintances.

Born in St Laurent, MB to Alphonse and Marie Colliou (nee Kerbrat), Marcelle's early years were spent in Camper, MB. She moved back to St Laurent to attend school, and at the age of 16, Marcelle moved to Winnipeg on her own where she worked and received her secretarial diplomas. While working at Dominion Motors, Marcelle met and married her first husband with whom she had two daughters. Years later, she and John built our blended family. They worked together for many years in Winnipeg and moved to Edmonton in 1989.

Marcelle had many hobbies and worked tirelessly perfecting any project she took on. A self-taught cook, many a delicious meal will be remembered by family and friends alike. She was also a voracious reader, enjoying a variety of subjects, usually having several books on the go at once.

Quiet and reserved, Marcelle loved to laugh, and had a devilish sense of humour. All who met her found her to be kind, friendly, sympathetic and generous.

Marcelle is pre-deceased by her parents, her sister Claire, stepfather Henry Gabel, several aunts and uncles, and son-in-law Jeff Corley.

Thank you to Drs. Waldman and Metha and the staff of 6E and 6W at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, Evergreen Funeral Home, and to all those who have shown our family their wonderful support at this most difficult time.

Always in our hearts. We love you, Mom.

Cremation has taken place. Burial will occur on September 11, 2024, at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Ashern, MB.
