GREGORY JOHN FRANKLIN
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved Greg. Left to mourn Greg are his parents, Stephen and Roberta Franklin; son, Taylor Franklin (Alanna); sisters, Teresa Smith (Ken) and Lisa Richaud (Mike); brother, Ken Franklin (Cindy); special aunts, Dolores Hawkins and Isabel Kelly; nephews, Darrell Helmle, Ryder and Chase Richaud; as well as several cousins and many special friends.
After high school Greg enrolled in the culinary arts program at RRC where he graduated with honours specializing in baking. He soon landed a job at Kub Bakery where he worked for many years building friendships and mastering his craft before realizing his dream of having his own bakery. He purchased Oma’s Bakeshop on Henderson highway, where he made a wide variety of delicious pastries and breads. Greg’s passion for food didn’t stop in the workplace. He explored countless recipes at home, treating those close to him to unique and flavorful dishes.
Greg was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and tending to his garden. He had many memorable trips to the lodge, out in the fields or on the lake with his son Taylor and his close friends, Marty Mason, Mike Plumton, Daryl McDonald, Howard Besser and brother-in-law Mike Richaud.
Greg’s outgoing nature and love of life touched the hearts of many people. Always making those around him smile and laugh with his goofy jokes and silly nicknames. But most of all was his dedication to those he cared about.
A celebration of Greg’s life will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Glenwood Community Centre, 27 Overton St., Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Some of my earliest memories as a kid were being excited that the “hunters” were coming out. There was always a fresh baked snack waiting for me if I hauled up some wood for the camp :) I know that my dad, Howard, will miss Greg horribly. On behalf of all the Besser family, my deepest condolences to all of you. - Posted by: Michael Besser (Friend ) on: Oct 30, 2024

Sincerest condolences to the Franklin family. Greg and I were childhood buddies. We used to ride our Chaparal dirt bikes together. Steve would weld them when we cracked them up. Such good memories. I can still hear Greg whistle through his front teeth.😊 Rest in peace good friend. - Posted by: Ken Ross (Childhood friend) on: Oct 17, 2024

A loss to everyone he met. I remember the Christmas cake he made for my Grandmother Mardie Edgar for putting up with us at the cottage at Lac Du Bonnet. Greg was a man of few words but one of the best friends you could ask for. - Posted by: Michael Phinney (Friend) on: Aug 25, 2024

I sure do remember his face, I read and realized, that is the applejack man! Thanks for a lifetime of memories, walking down Henderson Hwy. with my grandma, for an applejack... or 3!!!! It was just last week telling my kid that those things in the plastic container in the grocery store are not an applejack, Oma's is an applejack!! Rest easy. - Posted by: JESSE RUSHFORD (none) on: Aug 25, 2024
