Mom passed peacefully on August 17, 2024 in the Melita nursing home.
She was predeceased by her son John (Jack) MacDonald in 2023; parents, Ivan and Ethel Ford; brother Harvey (his wife Helen), and brother Russell.
Mom was born on the family farm in the Dunrea, Manitoba area and attended school at Stockdale. Often riding her beloved pony, Peggy. Mom loved horses and the many dogs that she had over the years. After graduation, Mom went to work in Wawanesa for the telephone company but was asked by the family to return to the farm to help.
She married in 1950, having two children, Gail and Jack. The family moved to Brandon Manitoba in 1962. Mom attended Assiniboine Community College and after completing her studies, went to work for Manitoba Hydro (generating station) in 1966. Working there for several years and transferring to Manitoba Hydro head office in Winnipeg in 1975.
She remarried in 1979 and moved to Montreal, Quebec for several months before returning back to Winnipeg. She went to work for Winters Autobody and in 1993 retired to Brandon Manitoba.
Mom volunteered with the Brandon General Hospital as a companion and sitter to patients.
She enjoyed gardening and flowers, playing cards with friends, socializing and loved music.
Mom will be mourned by her daughter Gail (MacDonald) Martin; her four granddaughters, Karla, Jennifer (Grant), Sarah (Doug) and Jessica (Kyle), and one grandson Tyler (Meghan).
She had five great-granddaughters, Jordan, Madison (Noah), Adele, Harper and Vayda; four great-grandsons, Michael, Kane, Angus and Cormick; two great-great-grandchildren, Noelle and August and sister-in-law, Lenore; special friend, Bill Lawson, as well as many friends, nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to the staff at the Melita nursing home for their care and compassion.
At Mom’s request, flowers are greatly appreciated.
Viewing will be held on August 29, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Wheatland Funeral Chapel in Killarney, Manitoba. After the interment at Killarney Cemetery, a light lunch will be served back at the Chapel.
