MARGARET DAWES
Sadly, we announce the death of Margaret Dawes, 84, on August 29, 2024, at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg.
She was the devoted mother of Roger (Sharon), Elizabeth, Martin (Jocelyn), Richard (Cindy), and Susan (Kevin), and grandmother of nine (Sydney, Mallory, Farley, Iris, Jim, Nicole, Gunther, Duncan and Angus). Margaret will be fondly remembered by her brother Angus McLeod. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 63 years, Colin Dawes, in April 2024, and by her son-in-law Norman Kehler.
Margaret was born in Somerset, England. She studied theology and music at Durham University before obtaining a diploma in education. Margaret and Colin were married in 1960 and moved to Boston before settling in Winnipeg in 1964.
Margaret had a wide range of interests, including playing the piano and harp, baking, knitting, quilting, sewing, gardening, bird-watching, and astronomy. She was an avid reader, and loved studying languages such as Icelandic, Japanese and Greek, as well as sciences and mathematics. She was very active and enjoyed kayaking on Lake Winnipeg and taking long walks along the shore at Gimli.
We are very grateful for the excellent care she received from the staff in ward 5B at St. Boniface Hospital.
Cremation has taken place and, in keeping with Margaret's wishes, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.

I, like others will really miss Your mother and grandmother. She loved the books and would discuss with me the ages of the grandchilddren and their interests. For those faraway it was always the issue of the mail costs being to high. Choices needed considered so carefully. She was such a beautiful person. May she rest in peace. - Posted by: Lorna Tergesen (friend ) on: Sep 04, 2024
