Peacefully, on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, Br. Nestor Lesyk, of the Notre Dame des Prairies Trappist Monks, passed away at the age of 90 years.
Funeral Mass will be held at the Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with Dom Clément Charbonneau officiating. Interment will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the St. Norbert Cemetery with Msgr. Noël Delaquis presiding.

My Dad, Gerry Hayes, worked with Nestor at the Canadian Pacific Railway in Windsor Station in Montreal in the late 1950's and early 1960's. Just before Nestor joined the Trappist Monks, he gave my Dad a pair of his shoes, which my Dad wore and cared for many years. My Dad wrote to Nestor at Christmas time for many years and our whole family looked forward to receiving his reply every year. My Dad was also able to visit with Nestor once every few years, up until my Dad went home to heaven in 2017.
