Melvin James Orr passed away suddenly on March 18, 2024 at his residence in Binscarth, Manitoba at the age of 75.
Mel was born on May 24, 1948, second son of James H. and Doris A. Orr. He attended school at Binscarth and then worked in the potash mining industry. He was employed at PCS, Rocanville, Saskatchewan for over 30 years, until his retirement.
He married the love of his life, Mary Ann Fleury in 1983 and together they raised a family, Cory, Sherri, and Michelle. In recent years Mel especially enjoyed visiting with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mel was predeceased by his life partner, Mary in 2022; his parents, James H. Orr and Doris A. Orr; brother Chris (1985); brother Graham (2023); and grandson Brian Allerton (2022).
Mel is survived by son Cory Orr (Deanna); daughters, Sherri Moreau and Michelle (Ryan) Summers; sister Margaret (Warren) Smallwood; sister Kim (Tim) Zentner; sister Cathy Orr; sister Angela (Lyle) Arran; sisters-in-law, Marie and Vicki, and their families; along with 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the Manitoba Metis Federation, Constable Ryan Needham of Roblin RCMP detachment, Constable John Ballenas of Russell RCMP detachment, and the Binscarth Fire Department.
A funeral service was held for Mel on April 4, 2024 at the Binscarth Hall. A private interment took place later at the Binscarth Cemetery.
