EDWARD (ED) TOKER
Date of Passing: Sep 21, 2024
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDWARD (ED) TOKER
Sadly, Ed Toker of Winnipeg, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
Left to mourn are his loving wife Olive, daughter Lori (John), son Randy (Diane), grandchildren, Sean, James and Jennifer (Domenico) and great-grandchild Mikayla.
Ed was born to honest and proud Ukrainian parents, John and Anne Toker (Moroz), in Ispas, Alberta. He moved to Winnipeg in 1954 where he soon met his wife Olive Chambers. They married in 1958 and celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary on October 25, 2023.
Ed (Papa) led a very active lifestyle, playing baseball, curling, swimming, hockey and many other sports. Papa especially loved golf. Even at the age of 90 he could still be seen on the course swinging his golf clubs.
In the 60s, Ed and his brother-in-law Frank Kelner, owned and operated a Dairy Queen on the corner of McPhillips and Mountain Avenue. This endeavour was something he was very proud of. He found his passion in law where he began as a Clerk and worked his way up to becoming a Small Claims Judge on the Court of Queen's Bench where he retired after 42 years. Papa remained a Notary Public and performed many weddings. Always full of knowledge, he was there to enthusiastically help anyone with their legal issues.
Papa loved working in his garage where he would fix lawnmowers, snowblowers and work on the family's many vehicles. Papa was a great teacher and took such pride in passing his skills down. However, the family's motto was "If Papa can't fix it - we are screwed!"
Papa also enjoyed bird hunting. Some of Lori and Randy's fondest memories were time spent in the fields hunting with their dad. It wasn't really about the hunting but more about their conversations while they hid in the fields waiting for the geese to fly over. Papa and Randy loved bringing Randy's dog Angel along as she was an excellent retriever!
In their later years, Baba and Papa found great joy in getting coffee and going for drives down the country roads looking for wildlife. Sightings of deer, foxes, eagles, owls and jack rabbits always made for an exciting day!!
As per Ed's wishes, no funeral will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or any pet rescue of your choice.
Papa, may you be at peace and pain free. We all miss you so much. Rest now and see you on the back nine!
Love Always and Forever

Olive and Family so sorry to hear of Ed’s recent passing. We first met Ed when we were small kids (a few plus decades ago) as Ed and our Dad Kerry Sargent were good friends. Dad would go fix Ed’s car and we often got to go and see Ed & Olive (more often Trev got to go). It was nice to see and visit Ed & Olive, always so kind and resourceful. We had Ed marry us when he was wearing his J.P. hat several years ago. Much respect to you Ed. Thinking of Olive and all your family & friends you’ve left behind. I’m sure Dad was there to meet you on the other side. Rest in Peace Ed. Love the Sargent’s - Posted by: Tricia Sargent (Witt) (Family Friend) on: Oct 02, 2024
