Dorothy was born in Canada in 1934 to an immigrant family from the Czech Republic. She attended high school in Dominion City MB and graduated in 1952, embarking on a life filled with adventure and purpose. Over the years, Dorothy took on many roles. She began as a telephone operator, transitioned to a school teacher, and ultimately found her lifelong passion as a travel agent. Her career with Pan Am allowed her to merge work with her deep love for travel. With her Canadian passport in hand, she journeyed to the Czech Republic to manage Pan Am’s office in Prague. Dorothy was the ultimate troubleshooter of her time—a role we’d now likely turn to Google for! Her career took her to Minneapolis-St. Paul and later to Pan Am’s offices in Chicago. A true globetrotter, Dorothy traveled to an astonishing 162 countries. While living in St. Paul in 1962, Dorothy and her dear friend Vera founded the St. Paul Czech and Slovak Folk Dancers, a group that continues to thrive with members of all ages. Dorothy’s hobbies reflected her creativity and generosity. She crocheted and knitted baby blankets and handmade gifts, baked and decorated countless birthday and wedding cakes—one even shaped like an airplane for a Pan Am picnic. She also crafted Christmas stockings for the children in her life and loved scrap booking. Everything she made was infused with love. Dorothy had a natural talent for gardening, inheriting her green thumb from her mother, but her true joy was in the kitchen. She shared her love of traditions through baking and cooking for family and friends. Cracking those eggs dyed in onion skins at Easter became a beloved ritual that brought everyone together around her table. Her passion for collecting recipes and cookbooks is now a cherished family tradition. Above all, Dorothy loved being around people, listening to their life stories, and sharing in their joys. She had a zest for life and a deep love for everyone in it. - Posted by: Sheila Mulko (Niece) on: Jan 15, 2025
