IRENE JULIUS

(EASTMAN)

January 26, 1950 - October 2, 2024

It is with deep sadness that our family announces the peaceful passing of our beloved Mother and Amma, Irene Julius, on October 2, 2024, at the age of 74 years.

Mom leaves behind, to cherish her memory, daughters Christy (Gerald) Kasyjan and Kelly (Nathan) Bilyk, grandchildren, Kinley, Kaiden, Johnny, and Parker, sister Margaret Sigvaldason, sister Rosemarie (Roger) Maksymchuk, and brother-in-law Bob Gudmundson, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and family friends.

Mom is joining in heaven her parents Halldor and Herdis Eastman, brother Alfred and sister-in-law Sandra Eastman, brother Dori and sister-in-law Pat Eastman, sister Gladys Gudmundson, and brother-in-law Steini Sigvaldason.

Mom was born January 26, 1950, in Riverton, Manitoba, the fifth of six children in the Eastman family. From a young age, Mom embraced life with enthusiasm and excelled in everything she did. If there was a team at the Riverton Collegiate, she was on it. From cheerleading, hockey and curling to volleyball and bowling, Mom did it all. After High School she moved to Winnipeg where she attended the University of Manitoba. Mom went on to have a successful career at Buffalo Credit Union, building lasting friendships along the way. After retirement, she moved to Calgary, Alberta so she could be close to her daughters. She was a devoted Amma and for the last seven years she spent every day visiting with her grandchildren and showering them with love and attention. Over the last few years, Mom’s disease may have taken her mobility and her mind, but no matter what her grandchildren knew every day just how much Amma loved them.

Mom was truly the most dedicated and loving mother, who always put her children before herself. There was nothing more important than family and she was very proud of her Icelandic Heritage. She will forever be remembered for her infectious smile, her generosity, her impeccable style, her love of country music, and her famous nanaimo bars. Mom loved travelling and would never say no to a trip with her daughters. Family and friends will cherish the countless road trips, shopping excursions and concerts they shared.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the Waterfront Centre’s Johnson Hall in Gimli, Manitoba at 2:00 p.m.

The family wishes to send a special thank-you to the wonderful doctors and nurses at the Alberta Neurologic Centre, and the staff at Incasa Homecare and Agecare Glenmore. Your care and support for Mom will always be remembered.

Mom leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth. We will miss you dearly and love you forever Irene, Mom and Amma.

  • Dear Kristy and Kelly. I was sorry to hear of your mom's passing. We met when Kelly and Lisa danced at Ken Peter and later working at Buffalo CU. She was always thinking of her daughters. - Posted by: Derrelyn Reinfort (friend) on: Oct 22, 2024

  • Condolences to Irene’s family. Irene, made a tremendous contribution to student life during her time at Riverton Collegiate. After University graduation we seldom were at the same place at the same time until I became a member of Buffalo CU, then again in her role at Jubilee Fund. She was always so professional and pleasant. Irene, will be missed and I am a better person for being in her circle of acquaintances over the years. • Irene and I were good friends for nine years while working at Buffalo Credit Union. She was a very kind and gentle person. Always smiling and ready to offer a helping hand either by listening or simply by being there. We lost touch after I left the Credit Union although I often thought about those days. PS: I really loved her oatmeal chocolate cookies. - Posted by: Monique Hebert (Friend and colleague) on: Oct 12, 2024

  • My most sincere condolences to you Kelly & Kristy & families. Irene was a dedicated co worker & very pleasant to work with. Words are not enough to express my feelings at this time. Her family was the most important part of her life, she cherished her daughters & also her sisters. Keep her memories alive. - Posted by: Gabrielle Comeault (Co worker @BCU) on: Oct 12, 2024
