LUDMILLA AFANASIEV

December 2, 1936 – October 12, 2024

It is with great sadness the family of Ludmilla Afanasiev announce her passing at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg on October 12, 2024.

Ludmilla was born in the Donbas region of what is now Ukraine in the city of Slowiansk. She immigrated to Canada in 1949 with her mother, Soja Mauring and father Alexej Mauring. She married her husband, Konstantin Afanasiev in 1957 and had two sons, Ronald Gordon Afanasiev and Theodore Gregory Afanasiev.

Ludmilla lived a life devoted to her family and her church. She was smart, witty and very even tempered. She will be missed by her husband of 67 years, Konstantin, her son Theodore (Ted) and her remaining friends that she touched during her long life. Sadly, her son, Ronald, preceded her.

A special thank you to Convalescent Home of Winnipeg who took excellent and compassionate care of Ludmilla for the time she was there.

There will be a short viewing for friends at 12:45 p.m. on Monday, October 21 at Thomson “In the Park”, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., followed by the burial at 1:00 p.m.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • My deepest sympathy to Mr. Konnie Afanasiev, Tedd and family in the loss of Mrs. Afanasiev. A gracious woman who was such a pleasure to know. She kept both her home and Gull Lake cottage always neat 'as a pin' and beautifully decorated. And to this day, my favorite deviled egg treat was from her recipe. I recall her fondness for Puffs tissues before these were available in Canada and I would bring her 'orders' of Puffs from the States. She was ahead of her time. I will remember and think of Mrs. Afanasiev with the fondest of memories. - Posted by: SUSAN HOCHHALTER (Family Friend/ Ron's friend) on: Oct 19, 2024

  • Condolenses to family and friends. She was a great neighbour at Gull Lake for many years. - Posted by: Gary Wuirch (Friend) on: Oct 19, 2024
