BEVERLEY ANN SHIMKUS
Sadly, our mother and grandmother, Beverley Ann Shimkus, passed away on October 22, 2024, at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg. Beverley was 82 years old and throughout her life enjoyed watching her five grandchildren grow up and play a variety of sports. Granny was never happier then when she was sitting in a hockey arena or on the sidelines of a soccer pitch.
Beverley is survived by her three children, Jody (Bob), Scott (Diane) and Blair (Tammy). She also has five amazing grandchildren whom she adored, Mackenzie, Dylan, Tyler, Aiden and Amber.
Beverley was born in Winnipeg to Anna Zdan and Metro Cymbaluk on October 5, 1942. She grew up in Winnipeg's North End and attended high school in Winnipeg. Beverley worked for the Manitoba Housing Corporation until her retirement. After retiring she enjoyed travelling to visit her grandchildren and Bingo with her many friends who she cherished. Beverley was also an avid reader and actively used the services of her local library.
The family wishes to think the staff at St. Boniface Hospital for all the care they provided Beverley and a special thank you to her personal physician Dr. Louis Fourie Smith for all the care that he provided her over the years.
As was Beverley's wish, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date with her children and grandchildren.
Those wishing to do so may make donations to the Winnipeg Humane Society.

I remember when you were young children and how we all spent some time together (but not a lot) with my bunch. As time passed and everyone got older those infrequent times became more infrequent. I last spoke to your mom when we met while getting a Manicure and Pedicure at Gisele’s on St. Mary’s Rd. Before that at Jodi’s wedding when we witnessed the unexpected finale! Another time was when one of you boys heard of a band practice party’s and somewhere that was happening at our house. You were underage and there was alcohol present and I could not let you in. I did invite you to sit with us in the living room to visit, but that was not cool so you and your friends left. On another occasion I had a delivery and when I saw the name of the delivery person was a Shimkus I ran outside with no coat in winter to touch base. Much later I was able to visit with Jodie in BC. All I can say is that you had a wonderful mother! She overcame the hardships that life is hard dealt to her. She was successful in her work life and was a super successful mother. She raised three fabulous successful children. My only regret is that I did not keep in touch. God bless you Bev and God bless each one of you and your families. xoxo Cousin Grace - Posted by: Grace Lawrence (Cousin) on: Nov 11, 2024

I was very sad to hear of Bev's passing. My deepest condolences to Jody, Scott and Blair on the loss of their Mom. I had lost touch with Bev in recent years but we spent a fair amount of time together when the kids were growing up, watching the kids play hockey, soccer and other sports. Bev and I took our kids camping at Rushing River and to Detroit Lakes and both of these trips were nothing short of adventurous for sure. You will always be remembered Bev. Rest in peace. - Posted by: Margaret Morgan (Friend) on: Nov 04, 2024

I worked with Bev at Manitoba Housing & we became good friends. I would often go with her & the 3 kids out to the lake for a weekend. My heartfelt condolences! - Posted by: Christine Hallem Ward (Co-worker & friend) on: Nov 02, 2024

So sorry to hear of Bev’s passing. We spent a lot of evenings playing cards as young marrieds and although we lost touch through the years I have always remembered Bev warmly. - Posted by: Claudette Blunderfield (Friend ) on: Nov 02, 2024
