It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mom on Sunday October 20, 2024, at the age of 90.
Born in Winnipeg and raised on Kingston Crescent, she terrorized the neighbourhood with friends she would keep for a lifetime. Married at 21 to the love of her life Finlay, they proceeded to have six kids in eight years. A decade or more of diapers, toddlers and lost sleep. A time she would say she didn’t remember well. When the last of the kids entered school Jackie rejoined the workforce. Over many years she taught swimming lessons to innumerable school children at Transcona and Bernie Wolfe pools. While she enjoyed the work, even more so she enjoyed her fellow lady instructors with whom she became fast friends. She worked and cared for her family and all the while maintained the title of “Mrs. Clean”. Joining Finlay in early retirement, they spent the next two decades enjoying life, first outside Beausejour then in Oakbank. A time filled with golf, cards, travel, flowers and watching her grandchildren grow. The years after Finlay’s passing were hard. Missing him deeply and challenges of the pandemic took a toll on her health. She passed peacefully to join him after a bout of Covid. Mom made friends and memories wherever she went.
She will be forever missed by her six children and their spouses, 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A private family service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations made be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
