DORAN CRAIG REID

March 4, 1960 - October 28, 2024

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Doran Craig Reid, a man deeply devoted to his family and loved by all who knew him.

Doran is survived by his children, Eric and Kirsty; his loving wife, Cara Atkinson Harder; his mother, Gail Kellough; brother, Trevor; sister, Kara. He was predeceased by his father, Donald Henry Reid, and stepfather, Bryan Kellough. Doran cherished the memories of his late uncle Jim and aunt Beryl from Pipestone, Manitoba, and their family.

Many knew Doran through his passion for sports, whether they played alongside him, were coached by him, or cheered for him from the stands. As a high school student, he was inducted into the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame, but his talents extended beyond basketball. He excelled in every sport he touched, including hockey and golf, but particularly in racquet sports, most notably badminton, and later in life, becoming a pickleball wizard.

Doran spent 27 remarkable years at the University of Winnipeg, starting as a front desk clerk and retiring as the Athletic Director, leaving an enduring legacy. His dedication inspired generations of Wesmen athletes and shaped the university's athletic program.

He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, son, brother, cousin and friend. Doran's way of treating his wife Cara always made her feel loved and free to be herself. In addition to making his mother Gail proud, he was fiercely protective of his younger sister Kara and shared a competitive bond with his brother Trevor. He loved getting into mischief with his cousins in Pipestone and maintained lasting relationships with his friends from Selkirk.

Doran went to great lengths for his children, Eric and Kirsty. When Eric wanted to play basketball but there were no local clubs or teams in Selkirk, Doran took the initiative to start a league that continues to thrive today. For Kirsty, who pursued dance, he drove overnight to Minneapolis to deliver a costume she had forgotten at home, showcasing his unwavering support and commitment as a father.

Doran's tireless dedication, leadership, and passion inspired countless lives. His warm smile, guidance, and steadfast support will be deeply missed by family, friends, and the communities of Selkirk, Ottawa, and the University of Winnipeg.

Rest in peace, Doran.

Your legacy will continue to inspire and uplift all whose lives you touched.
