SOPHIE VIRGINIA POLLICK

(nee MARZEC)

December 8, 1932 - October 26, 2024

It is with broken hearts that family announce the passing of our dear mother, Baba, great-grand baba, sister, auntie and friend, Sophie, at the age of 91, on October 26, 2024.

Mom was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Boleslaw Marzec, husband Walter and brother Edward.

Mom leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory, her son, David (Kathy); daughters, Teresa, Darlene (Peter); grandchildren, Justin, Nathan (Katrina), Amanda, Mathew (Shannon), Mitchell (Noelle), Caitlin (George), McKenzie (Eden), Trever, Kyra; great-grandchildren, Sophia, Amelia and Brynlee. She also leaves behind her sister, Ann and family, close friends, Jane, Kim, Marvel and Barry, and her many dear friends and staff from Kildonan House.

Sophie was born in Chatfield, Manitoba on December 8, 1932 to Mary and Boleslaw Marzec.

At a young age the family moved to Winnipeg and lived in the mosaic north end on Selkirk Ave.

Sophie met the love of her life, Walter and they married in 1951.

Prior to them starting a family, Mom worked various jobs from a young age but by far her favourite was her days at the Hudson’s Bay downtown store in the jewelry and handbag department.

Once Mom and Dad decided to start their family, Mom took on and delighted in a full-time role of the most loving, caring and devoted mom in the world.

Sophie’s deepest love was her family. It was important for Mom to bring family together. She was a loving hostess and we all have wonderful memories of special family gatherings with delicious food and much laughter.

Mom will be most remembered for her endless love and devotion to her family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Winnipeg Humane Society as Mom had a great love for animals.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg. Private family interment to follow.

Goodbye my family,

My life has passed. I loved you all to the very last, weep not for me but courage take, always continue to love each other, for my sake, for those you love don’t go away. They walk beside you every day.

Loved too much to ever be forgotten.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • There will never be another Sophie she was an amazing woman to me through my teenage years and as an adult. I will cherish every memory from the talks around the kitchen table and our doing dishes to the last Christmas card she sent every year no matter where I was. I was blessed to have you in my life and will see you and Walter again. Love always. Karen and Family. - Posted by: Karen Griffith-Henry (Friend) on: Nov 09, 2024

  • Sometimes in life it only takes a moment to know if you’ve found a true friend. The years that you share with that friend can fly by in the blink of an eye. But when they’re gone it can take the rest of your life to get over losing them. People like Sophie are all too rare, kind, decent and caring a true friend. I was so incredibly blessed to be able to call Sophie my friend. I will Sophie very much until my time on Earth is done until then the memories of our conversations and our friendship I will always hold dear to me. My deepest sympathies to Sophie’s family. May the wonderful memories they have of their dear mother bring them comfort. Rest In Peace my dear friend. - Posted by: Kim Stoyko (Sophie’s friend ) on: Nov 09, 2024
