HELEN LOUISE MACAULAY

April 21, 1953 - November 22, 2024

Helen Louise Macaulay (MacDonald), beloved wife, mother, nana, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2024. Born on April 21, 1953, Helen’s life was filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Helen grew up in Tuxedo, forming many lifelong friendships. She attended Dieppe School, the Convent of the Sacred Heart, and graduated from Shaftesbury High School. Assiniboine Park was her playground, where she enjoyed ice skating on the duck pond, exploring the zoo, and relaxing at the pavilion.

Helen’s love for the lake, swimming, sailing, and soaking up the sun was evident throughout her life. Her childhood summers were spent at the family cabin in Matlock, where Helen and her friends swam, crushed pennies on the train tracks, attended Friday night dances at the community club, and enjoyed popcorn made by her dad on the woodstove fire. Later, Helen and her husband Bob spent 15 years sailing at the Gimli Yacht Club, where they made many close friendships. Sailing became such a large passion for them that they decided to take their own boat and sail the Caribbean Sea. After selling their family sailboat, Helen and Bob retired to Spruce Sands RV Resort, which quickly became Helen’s happy place where she loved planting flowers in her garden.

Helen met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Macaulay, in 1980. They were married in 1984 and spent 40 years happily together. They shared a passion for travel and made friends wherever their adventures took them. They travelled to England, Scotland, France, Germany, Mexico, and Florida, where they met some very special people with whom Helen kept in touch until her passing. Helen loved Bob with her entire heart, and not a day went by without her reminding everyone of what a good man he was. Bob will forever remain the love of her life.

Helen and Bob lovingly raised their two children, Kristin and Scott, in South St. Vital. Helen cherished her role as a mother, always creating special memories and traditions with her children. Her grandson, Iver, was the light of her life. Despite their brief time together, their bond was incredibly special.

Helen dedicated over 35 years to the University, working at the Elizabeth Dafoe Library, E.K. Williams Law Library, and finally as the Supervisor in the Sciences and Technology Library, retiring in 2011.

Helen was predeceased by her mother, Nancy; her father, Elliott; her brother, John; and her beloved Nana, with whom she spent many weekend sleepovers. Helen leaves behind her loving husband Bob; her daughter Kristin, husband Matt and grandson Iver; her son Scott; her stepdaughter Lori and husband Dale; her step-grandson Tyler and partner Cori, and her fur babies, Coda and Maggie.

Helen was a thoughtful and meticulous planner, always ensuring that every detail was taken care of. She loved with her full heart, cherishing her friends, family, and traditions. Her selflessness and dedication to others were evident in everything she did. Her memory will live on in our hearts and through the continuation of the family traditions she held dear.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 6, 2024, at Glen Lawn Funeral Home.
