CATHERINE MARGARET ASPINELL

(nee MCBETH)

Catherine Margaret Aspinell passed peacefully with family by her side, after a brief illness at Peterborough Regional Health Centre on Friday, November 29, 2024, at 90 years of age.

Catherine, beloved wife of the late Ron Aspinell. Loving and devoted mother of Ross Garland (Kim), and predeceased by her sons, Deane and Scott. Cherished “Gra Gra” (Grandmother) of Katie Brown (Shawn), the late Scott Garland, and Great-Gra Gra of Dean Scott Brown. Remembered lovingly by her niece Jill McBeth. Predeceased by her sister Jeanne Krysko and her niece Jacqueline Bahre.

Catherine was born in Winnipeg’s West Kildonan in 1937. At an early age she showed a passion for reading, singing and piano which led to several appearances on local television. Up to her final days, Catherine would read a book a day. Over the course of her life, she was a caring, giving, and helping daughter, wife, mother, aunt, foster-mom, and friend to many. As she would say, “strangers are just friends you haven’t met yet”. Her happiest moments came from spending time in thoughtful conversation with family and friends. Her wisdom, enthusiasm, and great care for others shined through every day and in every interaction with others. After spending many years visiting Peterborough for family visits and special occasions, Catherine moved to Peterborough in 2021 to be closer to her family. She cherished every moment with family and kept in close touch with her friends in Winnipeg. Just before going to be with the Lord, Catherine told her family not to worry and that she was taking much love with her.

Relatives and friends are invited to Catherine’s Funeral Service in All Saints Anglican Church, Peterborough, ON, on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. The Reverend Samantha Caravan officiating. A light luncheon will follow in All Saints Parish Hall. In memory of Catherine, donations to the All Saints Food Program would be appreciated by her family.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • The first time I met Catherine and her sister Jean was back in 2005. They were foster parents and they looked after my grandson Jonathan. They both greeted me with open arms. Catherine always told me that I was always welcome to come visit my grandson anytime. Catherine would offer me coffee and cake or what every she baked that day. It was always a pleasure going to visit my grandson and talking with the sisters. I'm going to miss our visits together. RIP Catherine. - Posted by: Marilyn Ripstein (Friend) on: Jan 10, 2025

  • Catherine was an inspiration to all at our church. She was a very jovial person. Always had a smile and bubbly personality. Very friendly. When our church closed it's doors and before she moved, I gave her a mug with a picture of our church on it. She was tickled pink to receive it. She will always be remembered. Rest in peace my friend. Peggy Leuschen- Winnipeg Manitoba - Posted by: Peggy Leuschen (Member of Kildonan United Church - Wpg) on: Dec 03, 2024
