Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOAN ANDRIES
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Andries (nee Winstone) in the early morning hours of Saturday, November 30, 2024, after a brief illness.
Joan is survived by her siblings, Don Winstone and Donna Sainsbury; her nieces and nephews, Donna, Sharon, Gwen, Cheryl, Brent, Bruce, Lara, Pam and Troy, great-nieces and nephews, and extended family members. Joan was predeceased by her husband Richard Andries (2017); siblings: Vern (1947), Corrine (1999), Wayne (2018) and Elaine (2020); her siblings-in-law: Don Black (Elaine), Donna Winstone (Don), Peter Sainsbury (Donna); and parents: Charles Arthur and Grace Margaret Winstone. Joan will be deeply missed by her family and her friends, bridge partners, neighbours, and co-workers. Joan was a woman of many talents and passions, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her.
Joan was raised in Birtle, MB, and moved to Winnipeg in her teens. Joan and Richard met in Winnipeg and were married for 34 years until his death in 2017. They both shared a passion for gardening and dancing. Joan had a zest for life that was truly inspiring. Her ability for entertaining was unmatched - she reveled in hosting extravagant dinner parties, where she delighted in preparing delicious multi-course meals that brought joy to her guests and showcased her creativity. Whether it was gardening in her spacious backyard or spending time at the lake, these things brought her peace and joy. Many fun years were had at her cottage in Albert Beach and at numerous family gatherings at Whytewold Beach. Family was very important to her, and we will miss her more than we can say.
Her working life spanned almost 50 years. She started out at the Telephone company (MTS) - with her lifelong friends, Margie Grainger and Ruth Wallie - and then she moved on to her forever job as a flight attendant starting with Transair in the late 1950s and continuing for 40 plus years with various airlines. Joan toured the world - both through her job and because of her own love of travelling. She went on amazing trips with many of her friends including Violet Halicki and her dear friend Edith Henchey. Joan had enduring friends that she valued from her work, some of whom joined her for their long-standing Wednesday Bridge Club. She also had lifelong friendships with Margie and Ruth (along with sister Donna) who made up the "Quad Squad", going to Puerto Vallarta numerous times in recent years.
Joan's memory will be forever cherished in our hearts, and we are grateful for the love, laughter, and warmth she shared with us. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and a life well-lived. Her memorial will be an outdoor garden party next summer, as per her wishes.
In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to a charity of your choice.

It is with a saddened heart that I write this tribute for Joannie. Our endearing friendship goes back to the MTS days when we were 16 years old. Our lasting friendship endured regardless of periods of separation due to distances. I have wonderful lasting memories that will remain with me forever. The fun, exciting earlier times spent in Winnipeg, later the surprise visit from Joannie & Margie when we lived in Europe & most recently Joanne, Margie & Ruthie at my daughters wedding in Toronto. .I was always looking forward to another visit to Toronto from the 3. Joannie you will be dearly missed. - Posted by: Sharon Gregg. (aka Sam & Gus) (friend) on: Dec 29, 2024

Oh the memories of Joanie so many of her colleagues have. She was the epitome of the “stewardess”. I flew with Joan from 1969. She was a person to admire, from consistent service to her passengers and her empathy for her fellow crew members. She was kind and always professional. I hadn’t seen Joan for many years but will always remember her. My condolences to her family. - Posted by: Pennie Styan (Colleague ) on: Dec 09, 2024

I can't believe you are not there to review the cares and joys of life. Our greatest memory was our trip around the world in thirty days together in 1963. We hit all the high spots. What a great friend!! - Posted by: Edith P Henchey (life long friend) on: Dec 08, 2024

It's sad to hear that Joan has passed. I worked with Joan through the years at Transair, Pacific Western and Canadian Airlines and always enjoyed the day. Joan was a charming person to her coworkers and passengers alike. She loved her job and treated all with respect and a polite and a friendly demeanor. Her passengers were her first consideration, sometimes overruling a Captain's decision regarding free drinks during a long delay! (big grin) . She was patient with new First Officers, and insistent with old Captains. In short, a free spirit, and will not be forgotten Judy and I offer sincere condolences to family and friends.
