Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN BUHLER
John Buhler was born in Haskett, Manitoba on July 1, 1933, to Frank and Mary Buhler. He passed away at the age of 91 on December 21, 2024, with his family by his side.
Johnny was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Mary Buhler, his brothers, Benny and Frank and his sister Lena Brown, as well as his first wife Ruth Buhler. He is survived by his wife Bonnie, his children, Patti Schroeder (Larry), Doug Buhler, Sharon Bergen (Harold), Kathy Buhler (Sean Simmons), Barbara Haché (Marc); his grandchildren, Ashley (Rachael) and family, Ainsley (Jordan) and family, Brittany (Scott) and family, Evan, Caleb, Kai, John, Michelle, Lorna Jane and Elizabeth. He is also survived by his brother Jake Buhler (Marg). He had a very large extended family as well.
John was a hard worker and a fiercely determined businessman. In 1969 he purchased Morden's Standard Gas Engine Works and renamed it Farm King Limited. It was the first step in creating a farm equipment empire which eventually led him in reaching his career goal of manufacturing tractors in Manitoba. John is well known for his commitment to building a better community and his devotion to leaving a legacy of compassion. For his dedication John has received many honours throughout his career, including Manitoba Entrepreneur of the Year, Manitoba Manufacturers Hall of Fame, the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee medal for community service, an Honorary Degree from the University of Manitoba and the University of Winnipeg, and the Order of Canada, as well as countless others.
Still, his greatest achievement, or maybe more specifically the reason Johnny could achieve so much, was his zest for life and the joy he got out of sharing it. He loved art and music, often hosting concerts in his home. He insisted that every family gathering also became a recital put on by the grandchildren and later on his great-grandchildren. His favourite part of dinner, aside from eating of course was singing the blessing with four-part harmonies. His favourite foods were baked beans, coconut cream pie, and puffed wheat squares. He loved to take friends and family to KFC and Taco Bell or anywhere with a coupon attached to it. He is fondly remembered for eating from everyone else's plate, even if they weren't finished.
Johnny's final year would not have been as good as it was without the special care he received from his primary care workers, Angela, Nataliya and Bella. He loved all the staff at Bergen Gardens and would light up when he saw them.
John was known as many things to many people, but what cannot be denied is that in every room, from the board room to the family room, Johnny knew who he was and stubbornly refused to let anything dim his light. It was in this light that we held a private family Memorial to celebrate a man who showed us what it means to live a full life.
Special thanks to Gil and Edna for always being there for us, The Church of the Rock for helping us with Johnny's Memorial, and to Thompson in the Park, Johnny's final resting place.
You are loved deeply, and you will be missed but your memory will live on in the many lives you touched.
In lieu of flowers, and in honour of John's charitable heart, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.

Dear Bonnie, Brian & I were saddened to hear of Johnny's passing, our condolences go out to you and his family. We often thought about the two of you and wondered how everyone was doing. Brian & I worked for Farm King Allied and the memories we have always brought us back to Johnny and everyone, how kind and generous the both of you were. Every morning Johnny would make his way around the building to say good morning to everyone, always having time to chat. Bonnie, you as well when you came to the office on Regent, you also made time to stop and chat. Going back and reading how Johnny always used a coupon, well that brought me back to when I was in charge of the mailing, he would see me at the postage machine and he would ask “you’re not wasting stamps are you”, to my reply of course not Johnny, then we would both laugh out loud. We wish you well Bonnie, do take care. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Tanice & Brian Bowker - Posted by: Tanice Bowker (Past Employee) on: Jan 06, 2025

John and Bonnie are friends of Juvenile Diabetes (JDRF) and they sponsored and attended many Starry Starry Gala events. His and Bonnie’s commitment and kindness meant so much to JDRF and touched the hearts of the organizers and to care givers of those with juvenile diabetes. - Posted by: Claude and Bonny Chapman (past JDRF Gala Chairs) on: Jan 04, 2025

I walked into the John and Bonnie Buhler cancer center for 11 months. The word thank you is not enough for your support and I send my condolences to the family that I think helped save my life. If God placed angels on earth they work at the Cancer center. So blessed that that facility was available. God bless you. - Posted by: don sobering (friend) on: Jan 04, 2025
