Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT SCOTT CUNNINGHAM
After a brief illness but a very long and fulfilling life, Robert Scott (Bob) Cunningham passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg on December 31, 2024.
Bob was born in Edmonton, Alberta on March 25, 1930, to William James and Violet Coote Cunningham. The family moved to Winnipeg shortly thereafter and settled in the River Heights and Crescentwood area of Winnipeg. He attended Kelvin High School and the University of Manitoba. He then joined his father's sales agency W J Cunningham & Co. and worked as a manufacturer's agent for his entire career mostly in textiles and then later in jewelry.
Bob was married to Mary Hope (Puddy) for 61 years and a devoted family man. He was a big fan of Winnipeg, its people and made the best use of its surroundings. He had a passion for living and was an avid skier, squash player, Jets season ticket holder, and lifelong cottager. Bob was at the forefront of all new recreations in his younger days. One of the first to waterski on the Red River, one of the first to snow ski at Mt. Agassiz, one of the first to own and sail a Laser at Lake of the Woods, and a founding member of the Winnipeg Squash Racquet Club. He was also a reserve officer in the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders, and served as Commodore at the Royal Lake of the Woods Yacht Club and a director at St. Paul's High School.
A keen weekender - winters at the ski chalet (boxcar) at Agassiz, summers at the cottage (Lake of the Woods and Minaki). His passion was lake life. He built two cottages from scratch in the Whiteshell and at Lake of the Woods in his early years. He spent his later years tending to his wife's family cottage at Minaki, ON. He loved Minaki.
Bob travelled the world many times over and lived life with passion and was always there to care for others. He is survived by his four children - Scott (Veronica), Andrew, Heather (Allen Challmie), Donnie and his five grandchildren - Lindsay, Stuart, Lukash, Ruby and Vivian.
He had a long great run of life. He was a true gentleman. He will be greatly missed by the many that knew him. A Celebration of Bob's life will take place at a later date.

We are very sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. While we did not have a lot of meetings with Bob and Puddy we very much enjoyed the times we did visit. Bob was charming and a great guest on the golf course. You will miss him. - Posted by: Janet and George Wilson (Friend) on: Jan 07, 2025

I am so sorry for your loss. Bob was a wonderful friend of my Dad's growing up and then my Mom's, consequently both my brother and I enjoyed Bob and Puddy's company over the years. I really got to know Bob when we worked together when I was General Manager of Ben Moss Jewelers and he was carrying a line we purchased from him. we had such fun over the years. What a loss it will be for all of you. May you find peace and joy in the many memories you have. Paul and I and Bill and Julie send our heartfelt condolences to all the family. - Posted by: Sharon Hayles (Friend) on: Jan 06, 2025

Sending deepest sympathy and affection to the Cunningham family in their loss at this time. Indeed Bob had a great run shared with his lovely and talented wife Puddy. Don Shannon and Bob knew each other from University days, and remained good friends to the end, with Donald's passing in 2019, age 90. So many wonderful shared memories to remember. - Posted by: Vivian Shannon (Long time very good friend and wife of Donald Shannon, Deceased ) on: Jan 05, 2025

My family was also an Agassiz "boxcar" member. Drive up Friday afternoon, back Sunday with my dad flexing his hands to stay awake. It was about a three hour trip, and after a long day on the slopes, a healthy fatigue could set in. We made it there and back every time. The Stovels, the Bennams, the Cunninghams, and others settled into the boxcar with skies outside and boots inside. Sometimes the temp was -30 but we went every day. One weekend saw -55, and one run was all we could take. A pot bellied stove heated the H- shaped design and a large cooking pot heated stew. Bob was great guy who helped build the place and offered friendship to any takers. My best to his family. - Posted by: Paul Sweatman (Friend) on: Jan 04, 2025
