J.E.P. (GENE) BLAIS


J.E.P. (Gene) Blais of Winnipeg, Manitoba passed away on January 6, 2025, at Country Meadows, Neepawa at the age of 92 years.

Gene was the third born to Philias and Bernadette Blais on September 11, 1932, in Willow Bunch, SK. After attending school in Willow Bunch, he joined the RCMP in 1952. Gene met Evon G. Dennison at his first posting in Virden, Manitoba. After Evon completed her Nursing at Misericordia Hospital in Winnipeg, Gene and Evon were wed in Virden on April 27, 1957. Together they had three sons, Mark, Jon-Paul, and Bart, and resided in many locations throughout Manitoba including Minnedosa, Souris, Russell, again in Virden, Thompson and Winnipeg. During his career, Gene had the honour of providing security services during the visits to Manitoba by Queen Elisabeth and Pope John Paul II. After serving in the RCMP for 35 years Gene retired from the force and spent a brief period in the real estate industry.

Gene loved his time with family and friends, skiing, sailing, biking, camping and various other outdoor activities. In their younger years, Gene and Evon spent their summers camping at Clear Lake and traveled on numerous occasions with family and friends to Lake Louise to ski. At 70 Gene and Evon hiked the Westcoast Trail in British Columbia. They enjoyed many vacations over their years together travelling throughout North America and around the world. He was an active community member and a devoted Roman Catholic, at St. Paul, Apostle Parish in Winnipeg.

Gene is survived by his wife Evon, sons, Mark (Jan), Jon-Paul, Bart, grand-children, Laci (Dorn), Luke (Amber), Phillipe, Andrea, Daniel, Madeline and Julia and five great-grandsons, Chase, Aiden, Ethan, Elie and Helgi.

 A future service is planned for Gene at the RCMP depot in Regina. If friends so desire donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.

  • Our condolences go out to Gene’s wife and family, and all those who knew him. I had personally met Gene only a couple of times, but he knew my parents (Elmer (RCMP) and Lil Cutts). I remember him visiting my Dad in hospital not long before Dad passed away unexpectedly, and we so appreciated the time he took to spend with Mom and Dad during that time.
