GAYLE HOMINICK

September 28, 1936 - January 2, 2025

LeVerne and Cory (Ken) are saddened to announce the passing of their Mom, Gayle, on January 2, 2025, after a brief illness. She was predeceased by our stepfather Ken Hominick in 2014.

Mom was a voracious reader, avid gardener, and sharp card player. While she somewhat reluctantly took up Bingo in her later years, it never had the satisfaction of Bridge, Cribbage, or Canasta. Her travels took her across Canada, the US, and overseas, and she delighted in making new friends wherever her destination. Mom enjoyed a good joke, witty turn of phrase, and deftly told story. Mom was a determined genealogist, tracing the Dunns (maternal) and Tones (paternal) deep into the rolling hills of Ireland. St. Patrick’s Day was fittingly celebrated with great enthusiasm at home. Mom loved a celebration and the opportunity to gather with family. She cherished the large extended family gatherings of our younger years, consistently making enough food to feed the assembled guests at least twice over. Mom especially loved her children through thick and thin, through successes and challenges, and through some truly questionable teenage fashion decisions. Hug your loved ones, do the fun things, use the good china.

In lieu of flowers, Mom has suggested donations be made to the Winnipeg Free Press Sunshine Fund.

May green be the grass you walk on

May blue be the skies above you

May pure be the joys that surround you

May true be the hearts that love you

A come and go tea celebrating Mom’s life will be held at Wojcik’s Funeral Chapel, 2157 Portage Avenue on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I am so sorry to hear of Gayle's sad passing. My condolences to LaVerne and Cory. I have been corresponding with Gayle for many years as did my late mother. Gayle made contact with my mother when she was tracing her ancestors in Ireland. They wrote regularly to each other and it was so nice to meet Gayle and Ken when they visited Ireland. I really enjoyed her letters, so full of news about her life and she was really interested to know what was happening with me and my family. She had a lovely sense of humour. I will miss those newsy letters. May she rest in peace From Mary & the Doheny family, Ireland. - Posted by: Mary Doheny (Friend from Ireland) on: Feb 09, 2025
