NARCISO DAMIANI

June 16, 1948 - January 15, 2025

Peacefully on January 15, 2025, Narciso passed away at the Riverview Health Centre after a courageous battle with cancer.

Narciso will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Geraldine; children, Christopher (Nicole), Amanda (Anthony); grandchildren, Valentina, Dominic and Arabella; brother Sandro (Vanda); sister Giorgina; cousin Pino Vigini (Slavica), and Hilly Vigini.

Narciso was predeceased by his parents, Giovanni and Veneranda; his brothers, Mario, Giuseppe and Aurelio; and his cousin Stelio Vigini.

Narciso was born on June 16, 1948, in Sterna, Istria. He immigrated to Canada arriving at Pier 21 in Halifax at the age of 18 on March 11, 1967, before settling in Winnipeg. Narciso married his loving wife Geraldine in November of 1970 and they settled into the family home in Charleswood. Narciso was always surrounded by a large and loving Italian community of friends and family in Winnipeg. He was happiest tending his large garden, playing cards with friends and family, and playing bocce with his team at Centro Caboto.

Narciso worked as an ironworker when he arrived in Winnipeg before spending almost 30 years at CN as a Carman before his retirement.

Special thanks to all the friends and family who provided their love and support over the last few months. We are eternally grateful. Thanks to Dr. David Dawe and all the staff at CancerCare Manitoba, Riverview Health Centre, Victoria Hospital and Grace Hospital for the compassionate care he received over the last four years.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba.

A memorial service will be held on January 28 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the Chapel Lawn reception centre.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I am so sorry to hear of Nar’s passing , I send sincere condolences to all the family . I have fond memories of living next door to Nar & Gerry , my only regret is not stopping in for an espresso coffee sooner! Time slips away and sometimes we get busy in our lives, it makes me sad I miss that chance . I will hold the fond memories close to my heart forever. May the family find peace in all the memories of the time they had . Hugs to all , Love JoAnn Cherepak - Posted by: Joann Cherepak (Neighbour) on: Feb 11, 2025

  • We met Narciso at Bocce 13 years ago when we first brought my mom here from Ontario. I soon learned that he was from Northern Italy like my own family. He was a wonderful soul. He never hesitated to help us when we first started out and always asked after my mom's well being. We extend our deepest condolences to all of his family, we know he was a special man and will surely be missed.
