DIETRICH PAULS

Dietrich embodied the spirit of Leonard Cohen's words: "Ring the bells that still can ring...there is a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in." He found beauty in imperfection, grace in the ordinary, and light even in life's most challenging moments. Whether casting a fishing line at dawn, savouring the pages of a well-loved book, or sharing a meal or drinks with family and friends, he embraced life with quiet reverence and boundless curiosity. Dietrich understood connection, finding solace and meaning in nature, from the smallest ripple on a still pond to the vast expanse of a mountain range. He found wonder in the wild beauty of storms, drawn to the dance of lightning and the voice of thunder—a fitting reflection of his bold and awe-inspiring spirit.

Like Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit, he was an adventurer at heart, always ready to proclaim, "I'm going on an adventure!" Whatever he was doing, Dietrich found magic in the everyday. Like Huck Finn, he revelled in life's humour and contradictions, navigating its complexities with sharp wit and an eye for the absurd.

Dad's love for music, literature, and poetry was a guiding light, a way to connect with the mysteries of the world and those he cherished. Shakespeare's words, "When he shall die, take him and cut him out in little stars, and he will make the face of heaven so fine," echo the legacy Dietrich leaves in the lives of those who loved him. He approached the world with the same wonder as Don Quixote, tilting at windmills and finding beauty where others saw only the mundane. His story was a symphony, a gathering of words and memories that resonated through his love for music, the arts, and storytelling.

Though his journey on earth has ended, Dietrich's spirit lives on in the truths he sought, the laughter he shared, and the stories he told—always full of heart, humour, and just the right amount of embellishment. As T.S. Eliot reminds us, "The end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time." May his memory be a star in the vast expanse, guiding us as we continue our own stories, a love and joy he inspired in each of us. And in the words of Kurt Vonnegut, a line we heard ever so often, it will be forever with us, "So it goes."

Wir wünschen dir eine sichere Reise und werden dich immer vermissen.
