It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Suad Taha Ashgah (Dr. Suad Taha Ashgah Alazzawi), a cherished sister, aunt, and friend, who left us far too soon on the morning of January 10, 2025 in her home at Fort Garry Rotary Villa Independent Living in Winnipeg where she made many precious friendships with the staff and residents. She was predeceased by three sisters, and is survived by one sister and three brothers.
Suad was born and raised in Baghdad, Iraq. She graduated from the University of Baghdad in 1970 and became a doctor specializing in anesthesiology. In 1980 she moved with her sister's family to Kuwait, where she continued to practice medicine for 12 years before moving to Canada in 1992.
Suad’s radiant spirit, loving heart, and gentle nature touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She was an avid lover of poetry and prose and an expert in the intricate grammar of the Arabic language.
Suad brought joy and light into the world. She was a woman of immense kindness, with a heart so pure and a personality so warm that she could brighten even the darkest days. Her smile was contagious, her words were always filled with wonder, and her presence was a source of comfort and love to all.
Suad shared an extraordinary bond with her sister – they were more than siblings; they were soulmates, confidantes, and an inseparable duo. As an aunt, she was the embodiment of unconditional love, a constant cheerleader in the lives of her nieces, great-nieces, nephews, and great-nephews. As a friend, she was loyal, compassionate, and always ready to lend a listening ear or a helping hand.
She had an incredible ability to make everyone feel special, and her generosity of spirit knew no bounds. Her love was a gift, freely given and deeply felt by so many.
Though her time with us was far too short, the legacy of her love and the memories she leaves behind will remain in our hearts forever. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at Thomson In The Park Funeral Home starting at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her honour to The Leprosy Mission Canada or Operation Smile Canada, so her spirit of kindness and generosity may live on.
Rest peacefully, dear Suad.
Though you are no longer with us, your love will continue to shine through all who knew and cherished you.
