Don left us peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of January 15, 2025, at Riverview Health Centre at the age of 95.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Yvonne (nee Whyte) who passed away in 2019 after 62 years of marriage. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Diana (Greg), Susan and Janice as well as his beloved grandchildren, Bethany (Sean), Ben, Danielle, Tara, Brady and Sonya (Ryan). He was also fortunate to have three wonderful great-grandchildren, Zev, Stella and Ivy. He will be sadly missed by the entire Whyte clan whom he cherished and spent many holidays with over the years.
Don gave his friends and family so many good memories. He had a passion for music (especially big band), reading books, love of travel, current affairs and world geography. He was always telling a good story or joke, tinkering and maintaining farm equipment and his treasured cars/trailers and RV's. He enjoyed boating, curling, fishing, flying, hunting and playing pool. He was known as a fabulous dancer with sparkling blue eyes and a mischievous twinkle, wonderful laugh lines, a gracious kind smile and was quick to tears.
"A happy man and forever young at heart". Cheers to Don with an Appleton Rum and Coke press to a life well lived.

We had the pleasure of meeting both Don and Yvonne on a trip to Cuba in 2018. Many laughs, a ride in a hot pink convertible and numerous rum and cokes were shared. Their remarkable zest for life is something to aspire to! RIP Donnie, hope you and your lovely bride are still first on the dance floor. - Posted by: Jean & Bob (Friend) on: May 26, 2025

Sending condolences to Don’s family. Don was a lovely man who was a true friend to many at The Parkway. I am one of the daughter’s of Norm Harvey, who also lived at The Parkway until 2023, when he passed away. My siblings and I spent many hours at coffee (during COVID), drinky time, and dinner with our father and Don. He loved to tell stories and was such an interesting, kind man. I know my father really enjoyed his company and support during his final years. I will remember Don with great fondness. - Posted by: Jane Wittstock (Friend) on: Feb 10, 2025

My deepest condolences to Don’s family. I worked at the Parkway for many years and had the pleasure of knowing Don very well. We shared many laughs and created a special bond that I will cherish forever. He always brought us chocolate bars and gummies to the kitchen and treated us all like his own grandkids. Don loved happy hour and since we couldn’t join him while working, he would always sneak us little bottles of alcohol so we could “have a drink with him”. He will be deeply missed. Rest in peace Don ❤️ - Posted by: Lindsay Chesley (Friend) on: Feb 01, 2025

A big hug to Diana, Susan, Janice and family. Your Mom and Dad were a big part of my life and I want you to know that I loved and appreciated them for all the fun we had together. I fondly look back at the pictures I have of them, remembering their laughs and smiles brings me great memories. Love to all of you❣️ Wendy - Posted by: Wendy Robins (Family friend) on: Jan 29, 2025

To Don’s daughters and granddaughters, although I never met any of you I certainly heard about you all as Don was so very proud of you all but also very lucky to have you close by. Don met my dad, Norm Harvey, at the Parkway a number of years ago now and the two of them became fast friends. They had many common stories from similar up bringing and knew many of the same people. Don was such a dear friend to my Dad and to our family and was the one that I called if I couldn’t get Dad on the phone or was worried. He would always check on him and get back to me. My daughter and I visited Don last summer and found him even at that time to be so vibrant, full of stories and yes with that twinkle in his eye. He had a very special place in our hearts then and for ever and I know that he will be missed by many including the ‘happy hour’ fellows that were such a support system for each other, at the Parkway. Rest in Peace dear Don, we will miss you 😘 Judy McLean and family - Posted by: Judy McLean (Friend) on: Jan 29, 2025

Condolences to all of Uncle Don's immediate family. While I know he is at peace now, I will miss his exuberant spirit! I admire that he didn't let age dictate what he could do, driving to family gatherings near and far until recently, maintaining a close friend group and close connections with his immediate family and the whole Whyte clan. As a teenager my sister and I spent parts of summer on the Graham farm and they took us camping to nearby lakes where we did things we had not done before like waterskiing. I was a little scared on him then because he was stern but mostly he was a very huggable, affectionate uncle. Rest in Peace with Aunt Yvonne. - Posted by: Michelle Hammond (Niece) on: Jan 29, 2025

To Diana, Susan, Jan, and the entire family, we have lost a good man, but he hasn’t any health difficulties any more, and that should give us comfort. - Posted by: Al Cormack (Friend) on: Jan 29, 2025
