MARLENE JASKOW (HURD)

July 22, 1935 - December 21, 2024

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Marlene wife of the late Stephen "Steve" Jaskow and our Mother, Grandma, Great Grandma, Aunt.

Marlene was born in Brandon MB to Lorne Hurd and Mary Hurd (Maja Olson). Marlene was the youngest and last surviving of 7 children to her parents and formerly an "East Ender" as her friends called her. Later in her years of life she eventually met and married (1953) the love of her life Steve. In1956 they welcomed their first born and went on to have four more children over the time of their marriage together. Marlene and Steve went to live in Richmond BC for a short period of their marriage together but settled on coming back to their hometown of Brandon.

Marlene started her working career at Eaton's as a cashier and later as time past she also worked at Co-op on Princess Ave for a few more years. Marlene then took another job working for the Brandon School Division at New Era School, which was her last job for over 20 years until she retired at 65. She enjoyed the students and staff at New Era School until she retired in June 2000. Marlene was loved by all her colleagues she worked with including all the students over the years.

Marlene had a wonderful gift for cooking and baking, especially her Potato Pies and Sauerkraut Buns which all of us just loved. Her Roast Beef dinners on Sundays were one of her favorites, enjoying it with her family which included her famous Red Velvet cake for dessert.

Marlene always enjoyed her family and friends coming to visit her and if you didn't, she would let you know in her own comical way the next time she seen you. Marlene's husband Steve passed away in 2019 after being married for 66 years but she went on to live a happy life with her family around her. But in September 2024 after a fall in her home breaking her hip and having surgery she never fully recovered. Spending 4 months in the hospital with other health issues where she also contracted Covid which led her health to decline at the end.

Marlene passed peacefully with her family on December 21, 2024. Marlene will be dearly missed by her 5 children, Patricia (Dale), David (Karen), Kevin (Kim), Darryl (Jackie), and Scott. 9 Grandchildren and 7 Great-grandchildren including numerous Nephews and Nieces.

Cremation has taken place with Thanks to Memories Chapel and all the staff there. The family will cherish her memory with a ceremony in the summer of 2025 with family and friends at the Brandon Cemetery at a later date. Marlene's family would like to thank the Doctor's, Nurse's and Health Care Aide's in the Brandon General and the Assiniboine Centre for her wonderful care. Thanks to everyone for the cards, phone calls, messages, flowers and keepsakes.

We will love and miss you, Mom.
