WALTER PETER SIRMAN

December 8, 1955 - January 20, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce that Wally suddenly passed away at his home.

He is survived by his wife Elaine, stepdaughter Lisa (Patrick), his children, Michael and Andrea, grandchildren, Tyler, Chad, and Bianca, his sister Pat, nephews, Kevin (Siera) and Kurtis (Grace) Whitmore, his brothers, Harold and Dan (Rose). He was predeceased by his father Peter, his mother Marion Kshywiecki (Tony) and brother-in-law Dave Whitmore.

In the early to mid-1970s Wally started working in the towing industry and then started working as an ambulance attendant in the Selkirk Interlake area. From there he became a firefighter for the City of Winnipeg where he moved up the ranks and had many accomplishments. One of which was sitting on top of a 100 foot ladder for an entire weekend and breaking a world record while raising money for the Rainbow Society. After retiring from the Fire Department, Wally took some time to build his dream home in Seven Sisters Falls, MB. After that, he continued working in the heavy towing industry, and recently for a number of years, he was moving homes to northern communities.

Wally will be forever missed by family, friends, and colleagues. At Wally's request, there will be no funeral and cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Firefighter's Burn Fund or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

  • Deapest condolences for your loss. I had the pleasure of working with Wally. We were both driving district Chiefs. We had a breakfast club with the DC's and drivers. Discussed operational and command tactics. When we had our meal Wally always ordered 2 breakfasts. He sure could eat and he still was thin. Enjoyed our conversations. Many past memories. Again sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Victor Basarowich (Co worker) on: Feb 01, 2025

  • I am incredibly saddened to learn of WALLY’S sudden passing. From the time he was first hired as a tow truck operator he demonstrated a keen passion for towing & recovery incidents & was unquestionably one of the top operators with our firm. He was also one of the first to request to participate in heavy recovery operations & never had to be instructed on what to do at a scene. On behalf of myself & WALLY’S former workmates, we extend deepest & sincerest sympathy & condolences to his family. RIP WALLY. - Posted by: Garry Leach (Former employer (UNITED TOWING SERVICES)) on: Feb 01, 2025

  • Wally and I tramped many of the same ashes during our careers. He was absolutely fearless and a great firefighter, legendary eating machine and a genuinely nice man. My Condolences to his family. - Posted by: Scott Miner (Collegue) on: Feb 01, 2025
