In Loving Memory of Rodney John Webb: Celebrating a Life of Adventure, Love, and Laughter
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Rodney, affectionately known as "Poppy" by those who loved him most. Rodney's journey in this world was filled with adventure, love, and laughter, and though we mourn his loss, we celebrate a life that was truly well-lived.
Born under the African sun in Johannesburg, Rod's journey would take him far from those early beginnings. But perhaps it was there that he first developed his lifelong love of sunshine and the water - a love that would later find its perfect expression in his cherished days at the family cottage on the lake.
For an incredible 68 years, Rod and Mavis lovingly crafted their life story together. Their journey was filled with remarkable chapters, from thrilling motorcycle escapades across Europe - Mavis gripping tightly behind him - to establishing a life and family in Winnipeg during Rod's successful career as an Executive Producer at CKY-TV. Their unwavering devotion and shared dreams stand as a testament to the strength of their partnership.
As a father to Jedda, Jindalee (Dan), Lincoln (Rita), and Joalah, Rod demonstrated that family was the foundation of his world. As Poppy to Kaija, Georgia, Mexx, Owen, Griffin, and Kiki, he experienced immeasurable joy, and his legacy endures through them. The memories they cherish - of travelling, boat rides, leisurely days on the deck, and endless laughter - will be treasured forever.
Rod possessed the ability to find happiness in life's simplest pleasures. Basking in the sun during a day on the boat, sharing stories at happy hour, or gathering with loved ones over the holidays, he transformed ordinary moments into extraordinary ones. His final Christmas, surrounded by family, was a fitting tribute to a man who recognized that life's true wealth lies in the love we share with others.
To know Rod was to experience joy. His laughter was contagious, his stories enthralling, and his enthusiasm for life irresistible. He approached each day with a sense of adventure and an open heart, forging friendships wherever he went. Even today, his former colleagues from CKY Television in Winnipeg fondly recall his warmth and charisma.
To Mavis, his children, and his grandchildren - your Poppy led a life worth celebrating. He taught us all how to greet each day with eagerness, how to find beauty in ordinary moments, and how to keep the spirit of adventure alive within us. While we will deeply miss his physical presence, his spirit endures through the lake's gentle waves, the laughter of his grandchildren, and every beautiful sunset that reminds us of happy hours spent together.
So, today, we raise our glasses in honour of Rodney John Webb - a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. A man who understood that life was meant to be lived fully and joyously. He demonstrated that every boat ride is an adventure, every gathering a celebration, and every moment with family a precious gift to be cherished.
Cheers, Poppy. May you forever feel the sun on your face and the wind in your sails. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

Rod made it possible for millions of Canadian children from coast to coast to enjoy laughter, exploration and camaraderie through his 18 years as Executive Director of Let’s Go! and The Rockets weekly television shows. They are still smiling and finding adventures in life. Thank you from all of us, Rod. And warmest wishes to Mavis, Janis Dunning - Posted by: Janis Dunning (Host/Director: Let’s Go! and The Rockets.) on: Feb 02, 2025

Rod and Mavis were one of the first group of people we met in the press world when we came to live in Winnipeg in 1965. Our daughters were a similar age and now in the sixties still in contact. Rod and Mavis were generous in their hospitality and friendship, and always great fun to be with. Rod will be very sadly missed but a life well lived and lots of happy memories to look back. My sympathy to all the family. Carol McKinney - Posted by: carol McKinney (FRIEND FROM THE 1960s) on: Feb 02, 2025

Sending condolences to the Family. I remember him visiting South Africa when I was a child - there was great excitement and happiness before and during his visit and sadness when he left. Uncle Rod's life speaks for itself. A much loved Father and Grandfather and a man highly regarded by family and friends. - Posted by: Cheryl Marsh (Neice) on: Feb 01, 2025

Rod put Lee Major and I together for a fun T V show called " Two Grumpy Guys In The Kitchen " ...Developed " Skittle-Bits " with Joey Gregorash and TV shows starring Order Of Canada recipient Janis Dunning...A sharp eye for talent and the calm presence of putting that talent in the best possible light. A major talent in his own right. A life well-lived on every level.. - Posted by: Don Percy (Friend Co-Worker) on: Feb 01, 2025

I have nothing but great memories of my time with Rod and his family. I think for the better part of almost a couple years, I must have been at the Webb house for dinner just about every Sunday between September and June. Rod was always welcoming to me. He went out of his way to make me feel comfortable and a part of the family. Those were special moments and I remain grateful for his kindness, hospitality and friendship. I didn’t have any connection with him for many decades but I will remember him as a wonderful person and someone who was always there for you when you needed him. My sincere sympathies to Mavis, Jedda, Jindalee, Lincoln, Joalah, Randy and Ellie. Thanks Mike - Posted by: Mike Wolfe (Friend) on: Feb 01, 2025

Rod was a great guy to work with at CKY. Great personality and talented. At one point, he came with me to dinner a video with Tony Deluca and Jean Louis Danguy to prove who were the best cooks? The Italians or the French? That would have been approx 1989. Unfortunately, after much wine and great food. We all decided it didn’t work like imagined. But it was so much fun!! Godspeed Rod! - Posted by: Jocelyn Greenwood (Worked together) on: Feb 01, 2025
