BERTHA RISBEY

(nee ANDERSON)

September 17, 1936 -

January 23, 2025

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Bertha Risbey on January 23, 2025.

She is survived by her daughter Candace (Lorne Stanley), son Jim (Shelly) Risbey, grandchildren, Kevin (Megan) Stanley, Jason Stanley, Kacie (Scott) Ridden, Deanna Risbey (Kieran Bradshaw) and great-grandchildren, Hunter, Blake, Ryder, Lennon, Lucy, Oliver, Hayden, and Xavier. She is also survived by her sister and best friend Joan (Wayne Link).

Predeceased by her husband, Dawson Risbey and infant son, her parents, Nanny Nilsson and Magni Anderson, her sisters, Ingrid, Helen and Lilly and brothers, Wallace and Andy.

Bertha was born in Winnipeg and raised in Elie, Manitoba and the St. Charles area where she met our Dad. They were married for 67 years.

Mom was an extraordinary "homemaker", cooking, baking, cleaning, sewing, knitting, crafting and the co-pilot and organizer on the family road trips. She started taking swimming lessons and eventually became an instructor with the City of Winnipeg. She was a lifelong learner and enrolled in various classes including typing and computer programming. Mom retired from an administration position with Royal Life Saving Society. Mom also learned to play the accordion and to speak Swedish. She was very proud of her Swedish heritage. Her leisure activities included golfing as well as snooker and fitness classes at the Army, Navy and Air Force 283.

She was a super mom and absolutely adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Thank you to the medical team at Riverview Health Centre for their care and compassion.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to CancerCare Manitoba.
